We are fully aware that homophobia is a problem in America as a whole, but to be gay and black comes with its own new issues. Most African-American parents were not raised with beliefs of acceptance and tolerance and have passed that on to this generation. While there are many who have move passed these closes-minded ways, there are just as many who have not.

That's not how it works. When you make a sweeping statement about entire community or group of people, especially one that is negative or damaging, it needs to be proven. That homophobia is worse in the black community has yet to be proven by anyone who is saying it. You don't get to make a sweeping statement, then say prove me wrong. And sense there is no evidence supporting it, it can reasonably be called a lie or an unsupported claim.

AIDS and HIV are passed from men to women to women to men to men, gay, straight and, bi all across America. It may be worse in the black community, but that's not part of the point I'm addressing.

I'm only speaking from personal experience here. I dated a guy for a while and he's black.
I would always ask about his family, but he would sort of divert the subject and dance around it, or just ignore my comments all together. I found it very strange, because I wanted to know what his relationship with his family was.
I later found out that he came out when he was 16 and his mom put him out and cut off all contact with him and he no longer speaks to anyone in his family. Not even extended. He even changed his last name to not have any familial associations with them. I'm positive this happens in white America also, but I hear more stories like this from my black gay friends than my white ones.
