Why should there be a party when the country is one of the most discriminatory countries in the world today. They claim to be so modern, but they can't even allow people the right to practice their religion.
It's Good, they're legalizing gay marriage & I would applaud them for this, but I'm not celebrating a country with such a deep, insurmountable hate towards a group of people.

Sis do you really know what are you talking about?
The only thing that is not allowed in France it's the Burqa, other than that you can pray, you have church for every religion.

Do you know what you're talking about?
Various mosques have been vandalized, many atrocities have been committed against Muslims, & discrimination is evident, but the government is doing little to nothing to stop it.
They banned the Burqa and were very close to banning the Hijab, which is an ESSENTIAL part of the Islamic faith for women. Muslim Women cannot walk out of their house without wearing a Burqa in some cultures, and the fact that those women cannot leave their house for this reason is disgusting.
It confuses me how they can be liberal and plan on legalizing gay marriage, but they go back to the stone age when they discriminate against Muslims and claim the Burqa & Hijab are indications of gender discrimination.

They very same can be said about the US not allowing Gay marriage but allowing religious bigots to speak whatever nonsense they want. Every country has it's progressing to do but this is not what this thread is about.

Sorry but France respect other cultures/outlooks on life more than any state in the US. And by the way, you're replaying a French guy (according to his location), he obviously knows what he's talking about better than you will ever do.
Back on topic, good for France.

They were never close to banning the hijab. It's only banned in government institutions cause workers there have to appear secular and neutral. It's the same in the Netherlands and Belgium. You can't wear any religious articles when you work in public for a state institution.
They did ban face-covering veils which have nothing to do with Islam, it's a cultural thing, not religious. And it was done for safety reasons.
Of course I agree Muslims have it relatively tough in western Europe but you can't blame the governments for this.
Anyway, this is off topic, let's keep it positive and celebrate gay marriage
