Perez reveals that Katy saw herself as an Avril but eventually copied Rihanna came into her own style.

I think he is saying that she is more like someone like Britney since it is about the entertainment value and not about art/making meaningful music.. I see it more as Rihanna/Katy shade, but really I don't think there is any shade at all....
