The girls are getting ready to release new material, and each of them has done something better than the rest.
Let's analyze each of their latest material.
Funhouse, her last studio album, peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart, had a metascore of 69 and gave birth to a #1 song, So What, which became 4x platinum in the US and has sold around 8 million copies worldwide. Funhouse also gave birth to Sober, another decently successful single, but still didn't get Please Don't Leave Me, Bad Influence, Funhouse, I Don't Believe You and Glitter In The Air to do better in many countries.
Funhouse had 2 Grammy nominations, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Vocal Performance for the already mentioned single "Sober". Its tour grossed around $150,000,000.
Also, P!nk released 2 more singles off "Greatest Hits... So Far!!!", Raise Your Glass and ****in' Perfect:
Raise Your Glass became a hit, and went #1 in the US and top 20 in many other countries in the world. ****in' Perfect went #2 in the US and top 15 in many other countries.
P!nk's new single is one of the most anticipated of the year, and so is her album.
Teenage Dream went #1 in several countries, and top 15 in many others, it has sold around 6 million copies worldwide since its release almost 2 years ago, and gave birth to 5 #1 singles in the United States, California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework, ET, Last Friday Night and to a #3 single, The One That Got Away, each of them selling several million copies worldwide. California Gurls was the most successful single of 2010 according to Mediatraffic, Teenage Dream was the 12th and Firework the 38th. ET was the 9th most successful song of 2011, Firework held the 12th spot and Last Friday Night was the 17th.
A re-release of Teenage Dream, The Complete Confection, gave birth to a #1 single Part Of Me, which went #1 in many big markets, but failed to enter the top ten in many European countries. Katy's current single, Wide Awake, is doing great in many big markets, and failing to chart in others. Teenage Dream had a total of 6 Grammy nominations in 2 years, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. According to Pollstar, the California Dreams Tour grossed 59.5million in 2011.
Katy has said her new material is darker, but let's remember dark Katy showed up for ET and Wide Awake.
Rihanna's last album, Talk That Talk, has sold almost 3 million copies worldwide since its release last November, and has sold 929,325 copies in the United States so far. "Talk That Talk" had a metascore of 64 and has had 4 official singles: the worldwide massive hit We Found Love, You Da One, Talk That Talk and Where Have You Been. Birthday Cake also got more digital sales after the controversial collaboration with Chris Brown, and had some airplay too. While We Found Love dominated the charts in almost every corner in the world, You Da One didn't do nearly as well, reaching top 15s, top 20s and not charting at all in some countries. Talk That Talk faced a worse situation, being a top 10 in few countries and struggling to reach the top 20 in most countries in the world. Birthday Cake didn't chart in almost any country. The current single, Where Have You Been has reached the top 10 in most of the biggest markets in the world, and is on its way to become even bigger, maybe.
Born This Way has sold almost 6 million copies to consumers since its release 13 months ago, debuted at #1 in the US with 668k copies sold (1,108,000 counting the Amazon Deal sales). It has got a 71 on Metacritic, It went #1 in around 95% of the countries with music charts in the world. As of last month, Born This Way had sold 2,221,522 copies in the United States. It gave birth to Born This Way, which sold 8.2million copies worldwide in 2011, making it the 7th most successful single of the year and the 5th best-selling single of 2011 tied with Rolling in the Deep and Give Me Everything. Judas, despite being called a flop, managed to reach the top 10 in most countries with music charts in the world. The Edge of Glory has sold around 5 million copies worldwide, and reached the top 5 in many countries and the top 10 in many others. Yoü and I has sold around 2.5million copies worldwide, it reached the top 10 in a few countries and struggled to reach the top 20 in the rest. Marry the Night, Gaga's worst-performing single, managed to have some top 15s, but struggled to reach the top 20 or didnt chart in many other countries. Born This Way had 3 Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Speak Now has sold over 5.7million copies as of February 2012, it has got a 77 on Metacritic and sold 1,047,000 copies in its first week in the US, debuting at #1. Its chart performance in Europe wasn't that good, having a #1 in Norway, a #10 in Spain a #16 in Austria, it was #17 in the Netherlands, Greece and Switzerland, facing worse situations in Belgium and France. Out of 6 singles, the first one, Mine, was the most successful, peaking at #3 in the US, but still struggling to perform better in Europe. The following singles, Back To December, Mean, The Story Of Us, Sparks Fly and Ours barely or didn't chart at all outside the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Speak Now World Tour is the 40th highest grossing tour of all time, grossing $123,101,131 out of 111 shows.
Taylor has said her new material is more sad and about "the rise and fall of a relationship".
4 went #1 in some countries and top 5 in several countries in the world. It has sold approximately 2.8 million copies worldwide since its release a year ago. 4 is Beyoncé's most acclaimed album critically, giving her a 73 on Metacritic. Out of its 5 singles, Best Thing I Never Had was the most successful one chart-wise, reaching the top 5 in some countries and top 30 in some others. The second most successful single chart-wise, Run the World managed to reach the top 15 in some countries and the top 30 in others. The rest of the singles, specially End of Time, didn't do well on any chart or didn't chart at all.
So, considering how strong some artists are in some subjects, who do you consider will have the most successful album OVERALL? Considering Album Sales, Single sales, Critical acclaim, awards given, tour success and chart performance as factors, who will face a more successful era than the others?
"People will always talk, so let's give them something to talk about."
LADY GAGA • LANA DEL REY • ELLIE GOULDING • TAYLOR SWIFT
Pink >> Beyonce >>>> Lady Gaga > Taylor Swift > Katy Perry > Rihanna
-We had so much of Rihanna and Katy Perry, they can't go anywhere but downhill.
-Taylor Swift is basically an adult now and she is cute and all but not interesting by any means.
-We are saturated with Lady Gaga as well, she'll always live under the shadow of her debut era, probobly still a huge success though cos of the tweens and such.
-Beyonce flopped real hard last time but she can easily turn the things around with the right timing and material.
-Pink is going on to become a legend. Her consistency and Pink drought and the hype from last era are just making things easier for her
Girl you took your time with this and served the true tea. We need more threads like this on ATRL! I don't want to predict though, I just want to see what happens. These girls shock us every era, sometimes good, sometimes bad.
History will show a dark time in our culture in which a million followers on Twitter became a key component to winning a Grammy. But thank God for Pink. While Christina Aguilera has a tendency to oversing, Britney Spears can't sing, and Lauryn Hill sorta stopped singing, Pink has managed to carve a brilliant 13-year-career by being something that is incredibly rare these days -- an artist. A complete artist. - CNN
Wow. Taylor selling all these albums and having the biggest tour of all the pop-girls while completely flopping with singles.
