A staggering 152,000 singles sold



Cheryl Cole's single 'Call My Name' has lived up to its midweek hype and scored the biggest seven-day sales total of any song in 2012.

With a staggering 152,000 downloads shifted since midnight last Sunday, it surpasses DJ Fresh and Rita Ora's 'Hot Right Now' (128,000) to net the best first-week sales for a 2012 single, and Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band's 'Sing' (143,000) to score the best any-week sales for a 2012 single.

Remarkably, it is the third time that Cheryl has bagged the fastest seller title in her solo career, making her the only artist in history to achieve the feat. 'Promise This' set a new record for 2010 opening sales when it netted 157,000 in its first week, prior to which 'Fight For This Love' sold an astonishing 293,000 in seven days in 2009.

'Call My Name' is her first solo effort to be launched without the huge platform of a performance on The X Factor.

To be honest, its not exactly a major achievement, and actually demonstrates the sorry state of UK music sales, as 150k isn't particularly impressive.

But well done none the less.

150k is very impressive for the Uk. Singles don't sell massively on average, generally as they only receive support from Capital or Radio 1, but Cheryl has both. She could sell 600k with this. Look at the best selling singles of the 21st century, WIll young has the #1 spot with like 1.9m.

150k is impressive..... Average #1 single in the UK sells about 80k. The UK is a lot smaller than the US

post-cray Britney Spears is still better than current Cheryl (MUSIC-wise).
