Super Bass because of Taylor Swift.

Lights because a couple of DJs remixed it for fun and it took off, prompting a proper single version and re-release.

Both Nicki Minaj and Ellie Goulding are very lucky in that sense.

Though an obvious question is... WHY WEREN'T THESE JUST INCLUDED ON THE MAIN FREAKIN' ALBUMS?!?

Isn't Ellie's album called Lights? How was Lights a deluxe track? Lol. Idk about the UK but isn't it the first track on the US release?

I remember the interview where Nicki said that she didn't even think Super Bass would be a hit, which is why she tacked it on the Deluxe Edition.

Whe PF was released, everyone thought Fly was going to be THAT single that smashed everywhere.

It's good promo. If you have the standard edition of an album and a song from the deluxe is released, you obviously wont have it and it will bring in sales.

Nicki only decided to release Super Bass as a single because of how popular it got once Taylor Swift covered it. It wasn't part of her planned singles, that's probably why it was left off of the main album

It's the first track on the US edition of Lights.

Lights was originally released in the UK without it, but then released with 7 more songs about a year later (Similar to Ke$ha's Animal/Cannibal) as Bright Lights.
Bright Lights added 6 songs to the original album, and Lights is the first song of those 7.

Lights flopped on its ass in the UK. Didn't even go Top 40 IIRC.

It's actually absurd it's doing well in America. Maybe it'll get re-released in the UK.

And as stupid as it sounds, Lights wasn't on the UK standard edition of the album, despite being the title track. It was a bonus track online.
