Sorry but very few musicians however popular can claim to have changed history though. Probably only Madonna and the Beatles (and Bruce if it's true about his impact) of those mentioned in this thread.

I think Elvis and his sexual revolution/'50s youth culture should count too. He (and James Dean) did a lot in that regard.

Also, I think Bob Dylan and Woodie Guthrie should count. Along with Muddy Waters, who basically invented rock'n'roll.
