If everything in the universe is determined causality (cause and effect), then how can we have free-will? Do we even have free-will?

I think it might not exist such a think like free-will. I remember one episode of Lost where the dude is basically ****ed up because he must follow the pattern the universe has for him or he will either **** up stuff or do what he has to do anyway even if he's not aware of it because that's the way it is.
