The ignorance. That movie was nominated for 6 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. Joe Pesci won his only Oscar for that movie.
It also won Five BAFTA awards, including best film and director.

Well, at least this masterpiece made it to the front half of the list. Actually pleasantly surprised it did so well on this site, considering its age and aesthetic.

It came out years before I was born, why should I be expected to know any of that crap? And if all those awards meant anything then it would be higher on the list!

What does it matter when a movie comes out? That's just ignorant and who cares how high it places on this list, it's not like some list on ATRL is significant in life, this is just for fun.

Brokeback Mountain was nominated for eight Academy Awards, where it won three: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. Is one of the highest grossing romantic films ever, and one of the most polemic movies of the last decade.

The fact it is on the list (more than 100 movies come out every year) shows that some people on this site actually care about good movies. Obviously you do not, specially since you appear unwilling to see movies created before you were born. Of course, the Star Wars films (the good ones), the Indiana Jones Films, the Back to the Future films are all older than Goodfellas. Your attitude towards film will keep you from appreciating so many great films, but that is your loss only. So Sad.

Mean Girls is going to be top ten. The Avengers was #12! The movie was just released three months ago! I mean, this is not the type of list that a classic film such as Goodfellas is going to place very high.
The top 11 is looking pretty exciting, though. Let's see how long that lasts.

I welcome the rain
And as you walk the final top
They will start to dark my past
Nothing counting in this world
See the valley turn to darkness on your way

you having not heard of a movie =/= movie isn't a classic. get a clue. just 'cus it was released before you were born doesn't mean it's any less worthy of being considered one of the all-time greats. what kind of retarded logic?

"La flor que se ha marchitado ya no volverá a florecer. Del mismo modo, los insectos, los pájaros, los hombres… incluso las estrellas que están en el cielo no viven más que una vez. Por eso la vida es hermosa. Por lo efímera. Estaba tan equivocado, al pensar de que los que estaban muertos podían volver a vivir".

The last two are so lame. Here's hoping the Top 10 is better.

#10. Citizen Kane (1941)
Following the death of a publishing tycoon, news reporters scramble to discover the meaning of his final utterance.
Director: Orson Welles
Stars: Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten and Dorothy Comingore
Gross: $1,585,634
Quote:
The film was nominated for Academy Awards in nine categories; it won an Academy Award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) by Herman Mankiewicz and Welles. A critical success, Citizen Kane failed to recoup its costs at the box office. The film faded from view soon after its release but its reputation was restored, initially by French critics and more widely after its American revival in 1956. It has topped many 'greatest film ever made' lists such as Sight & Sound's decennial poll, the AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies list and its 10th Anniversary Update.
This is the oldest movie that made into the top.
