Why would they shade the show that two of them were mentors on, this season. And have friends on though

They mean more of a personality not being stuck up, more shading the people going around like they are better then everyone else because they have a good voice. They are saying good you have a good voice, but show your personality.

The mentors aren't the one that are shading. ABC and the producers of Duets are

Every major competition came with the "We are better then the rest" or "We are different then the rest" kind of mentality. The producers are simply marketing their product. This has nothing to do with the mentors since they don't decide what the commercials are going to be
