Creative director Brian Friedman is leaving the US version for the UK version. I hope they replace him with Laurie Ann Gibson.

"The X Factor" U.K. is shaking up its behind-the-scenes staff before the show's ninth season begins airing on ITV1 in August 2012. According to the Daily Mirror, "The X Factor" U.S. creative director Brian Friedman is transferring to the U.K. show in the same position.

Also they're close to announcing who the hosts will be. Simon says there is a shortlist consisting of 5 candidates.

Simon said, “I want to work with a boy and girl and I definitely think this is a role for two people…”


However, he wouldn’t – or couldn’t – reveal who would get the jobs, saying, “I can’t say who it is – but they have narrowed it down to 5 people.

“As far as I’m concerned, and I don’t think it’s going to change, it will be a boy and girl and neither of them will have hosted before.”

He went on to say, “If you count, which I did, over a two hour show, we separated what the host says on his own and it’s 12 minutes and a lot of that is quite boring information.

“There are ways of saying things a bit more interesting and I think it will make sense if I do what I want to do.

“There are ways of relaying information that doesn’t become like a news readers role. You have to get over a lot of information.

“When the hosts are facing four judges, I think it’s very intimidating and you don’t have that backup and I think you need another opinion. We started Idol with two people.

“What happened in America is that it ended up with one because they didn’t get the right second person.

“I always thought it was a two person job.”

It’s expected that an announcement about the show’s new hosts will be made within the next couple of weeks.

I'm not sure how reliable this site is, but they're claiming that Khloe Kardashian is out of the running to host and that Kelly Obsourne is close to signing on.

Host update. Looks like they're retracting on the co-host thing.

FOX hasn't hired hosts for "The X Factor" yet, but that's a situaiton that may change soon.

Network chief Kevin Reilly says the network and "X Factor" creator Simon Cowell are "pretty close" to closing a deal on a host, or hosts, as the case may be. Cowell has said he'd like to have two hosts for the talent competition, but a solo emcee is apparently still on the table.

"I think it could happen next week, or it could happen in the next two weeks," Reilly said Monday (July 23) at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Cowell, he adds, has been weighing the idea of both a single host and a duo.

"That's going to be about who he finally selects and does he like the feel of it," Reilly says. "He's done the show with two before [in the U.K.]."

That was the plan for last season, too, but Nicole Scherzinger moved into one of the judges' slots after Cowell decided to replace Cheryl Cole, leaving Steve Jones as the lone host.

Appearing via satellite later in the day, Cowell says he's hoping to have a man and a woman as hosts -- and "ideally, I'd like someone who maybe hasn't been a host before." He says his fellow producers will be giving screen tests in the next few weeks, with hopes of making an announcement by mid-August.

The final 32 have been chosen! Next stage is Judges' Houses, where the judges will make their final decisions on who they want to take to the live shows.

There was a little drama at yesterday's boot camp, as the live audience booked for the day was suddenly cancelled at the last minute.

Disgruntled fans received an email only hours before and those that still arrived were turned away from the venue.

Sources tell us that producers were worried about "leaks" and didn't want any surprises ruined when the show airs in September.

Wth social media, camera phones and mobile video uplinks all so readily available, show bosses took the decision to axe the audience and continue filming with just the judges.

Well that sucks. They're really trying to keep things hush hush.
