I agree with Born to Die being pretty overrated here. Electra Heart... yeah it's kinda overrated, at least by scattered stans, but there's also a lot of undeserved hate here too. That's just me though and I'm probably influenced, but oh well. A lot of stuff can be over-exaggerated, especially here.

While Born To Die fails to deliver upon the initial promise of Video Games, a sweeping ballad drenched in more theatrical emotion than most listeners will ever experience in their lives, and one of the best lead singles in the past few years, it nonetheless manages to build up a cohesive soundscape that is relentless in its insistence on the motifs repeated throughout the album and may strike some listeners as repetitive. "Yes, we get it!" some may cry out halfway through the album, "life is really ****ing hard, but do you really need to be this despondent?" However, it is this repetition of themes that creates the charm of the album and makes it so irresistible. Lana's messages are at times questionable in their morals, but she's not here to preach, she's here to wallow i and you're coming with her whether you like it or not.
Born To Die doesn't just try to sell a lifestyle; it straight up glamorizes it to the point where a life in trailers sipping on Pabst Blue Ribbon on ice starts to sound a lot more appealing than it should. Part of it is due to her seemingly personal lyrics enunciated with a mixture of detachment and resignation. After a complete listen of Born To Die you have felt everything that Lana has once felt, even if now she is vapid and devoid of feelings. Sure, it is all an obvious act - but at its best (Off to the Races) it is thrilling theatricality that enrages, amuses and thrills all at once. Without a single true dud, all tracks come together for this purpose and form the united tale of Lana Del Rey, pop's most exciting fake in a long time. It is too bad that one of the most stomping songs on the album, the melodically enthralling Lolita, severs the flow before obvious closer Lucky Ones and suddenly introduces a facet of Lana's persona that at this point seems slightly misplaced.
Best 3 Tracks: Video Games, Off to the Races, Summertime Sadness
Dud: Diet Mountain Dew

Lol at Ramcoro's 'review'. Overrated on ATRL? There were many posters on here before the release of the album predicting she would flop badly. Well, even though she has yet to hit it really big in the US, this album is currently #2 in the worldwide year to date chart behind Adele. Some flop, lol.
My review to follow...

One of the most solid albums in recent years. Most of the tracks are decent that it's almost impossible to pick the top tracks. The music is breathtaking, the lyric is touching, and the impression is haunting. Her (studio) voice is mesmerizing enough to take you to a whole other world of her, separating herself from the rest of the music landscape
On the other side, the materials bear too much resemblance to each other, and more variation would have been preferred.

Born To Die
Lizzie Grant aka Lana Del Rey started as a youtube sensation to a worldwide star. Last year we heard her first singles Video Games & Born To Die and I can say that is such a fresh sound in a dance/electropop world. But if you think it can't get any better, she saved some of the big guns for the album. The album is very cohesive with only two fillers for saying in that way but the other tracks make up for it; you have love songs as National Anthem, Summertime Sadness & Without You (which I think that shouldn't have been a bonus track if not an album and a potential single), the hypnotizing voice in Million Dollar Man which recreates a perfect 50's-60's atmosphere or about empowering as This Is What Us Girls. It's not a typical album at least not these kind of lyrics that somehow can be kind of similar to Adele's work.
If you wanna have a relax time and escape of this electronic and heavily generic sound world, then you must listen Born To Die.
Standouts: Born To Die, Summertime Sadness, This Is What Us Girls & Without You
Score: 94/100
The highest score I've given
Britney Spears
Lady Gaga
Adele ▲ Rihanna ▲ Loreen
Lana Del Rey ▲ Nelly Furtado ▲ Katy Perry
