Digital Spy: Should Britney Spears Join X Factor?
Quote:
Britney Spears is, according to all reports, about to join The X Factor USA judging panel.
The pop princess will probably sign a multi-million dollar contract in the next few days, but is it a good idea?
We've presented both sides of the argument and invite you to give your own opinion on the next chapter in Britney's whirlwind career.
Why Britney shouldn't do The X Factor USA [MN]
Britney Spears is more than just a popstar. She's a pop culture icon. The link between the untouchable pop gods of yore and the 24-hour-tweeters of today. A piece of pop art in herself.
We've already seen more of her than we'd ever want. From the short-lived mess of 2005's Britney & Kevin: Chaotic reality show to the borderline gynecological photographs sourced and published by various moral vacuums. But we don't need to see anymore.
It's not that talent show judging is beneath her. It's a respectable profession which has managed amazing feats, from launching a Cheryl Cole solo pop career to detoxifying Piers Morgan on both sides of the Atlantic. But not for Britney. No.
Is she capable? Sure. She's been a popstar for nearly half her life and she knows what's what. Will it sell records? Of course. Even if Chezza hadn't sung 'Fight For This Love' on the show, her very presence was a twice-weekly advert for the Cole brand.
But Britney is different. She's more than some mid-tier popstar mouthing platitudes about "making that song your own". Unlike some, the Britney Soap Opera was always the least interesting part about her. The songs really are everything. Britney Spears isn't who she marries or what she does to her hair. She's not a load of tabloid front covers. She's '... Baby One More Time', 'Everytime', 'Gimme More' and 'Radar'.
Some tedious faux rivalry/love affair with Simon Cowell and boring fashion-off with Nicole Scherzinger will make her richer. Heck, it may even make her happier! But it won't do her work any favours. If we're ever going to get another masterpiece like Blackout from Britney, it won't be off the back of The X Factor USA.
Why Britney should do The X Factor USA [RC]
As much as we hate to admit it, Britney's star is fading. The idea of her becoming a judge on The X Factor USA is not one we've come to accept easily, but as things stand, it's necessary.
Her reluctance to promote her music worldwide anymore - bar the occasional PR-friendly interview - has meant she's lost touch with the general public. Putting her on the panel of a (relatively) unscripted primetime show will help her connect with a wider audience again and shake off the perception that she has become a zombie at the hands of her conservators.
While Britney continues to make brilliant pop music, sales of her latest album Femme Fatale have dipped considerably from 2008's Circus; in part due to the landscape being dominated by female singers. A weekly spot on The X Factor would be the quickest and most effective way to get her music career back on track.
Thanks to Twitter, we don't live in an age anymore where popstars are untouchable. And despite messaging her fans on the daily, Britney has managed to retain her enigma by refusing to engage with questions about her private life. There's no reason why a seat on the show's panel should change that. It's bound to throw up a few unwanted headlines in the papers, but it's nothing she hasn't brushed off in the past with ease.
What's more, the prospect of Britney Spears on our TV every week is enough to keep us glued to our screens alone. She has it - that thing Simon Cowell calls the X factor - and if anyone has an eye for spotting it, it's Britney.

I love how they listed the pros and cons.
I agree with most of it and this could do wonders for her if she shows a lot of personality but it will be a disaster if she doesn't.
Also DEAD at them mentioning how she doesn't promote.

She needs to show another side of her to change that perception though

Well executed article.
Britney dosent need Xfactor, but at the same time she does need the show!
If she performed more often, and killed those performances. She wouldnt need any show.
The world just needs to see top notch Britney performer again!
Unfortunatly my girls to lazy to reherse like she used to.

If Britney opens up showing her true bubbly, goofy and hilarious self we all know that the public haven't seen in a while along with her team effectively promoting her music from the show, X-Factor would be huge for her image, music and brand. If she and her team ****s it up though, it could hurt her hugely. X-Factor can go either way for her.

That's a good article and has some valid points but we can only wait until they confirm she's part of that project.

I don't think her music career needs to be put back on track.
I mean is there any other solo female that has emerged BIG in the same time frame as her that is selling AT ALL these days? The barely promoted FF still was the 15th best selling album released in 2011, yielded 3 successful singles aswell as a hit tour. Also if you count the people who have sold more than 3 million in 2011, you'll have only 3 or 4 people.
For the GP and the medias, the whole era was successful while online it's mostly perceived as a flop!
