Of course. but Motown was also an assembly line.
I don't think SAW will ever get the credit they deserve. For you, it sounds like one of the same, but for me, it's bracing - exciting; this record sounds nothing like the kind of song Stock, Aitken and Waterman would have composed five years prior. The changing sounds of the times, and how they reacted to those changes while holding onto core structural elements - it's what pop music is all about.
