Despite getting a lot of 10’s, this song was weighed down by all the 5-7’s it got. I think what makes me really love this song is that I’ve always been fascinated by small town gossip. I came from a pretty big town, so no one really knew anyone. You can tell that Miranda wrote this song about her own home town. There’s just a certain sense of hometown proud in her voice that brings this cliché to life.

Towards the end of last year Taylor’s label decided that it wanted to remind everyone of Taylor’s digital domination. To do this, they released three of the bonus tracks of Speak Now onto Itunes and quickly watched them rise to the top. Out of the three bonus tracks, Ours was chosen to be the next single. The song is a solid 8/10 to me; it’s sweet and well written. I would have been pissed off that this was chosen as a single instead of obviously better tracks had I not already accepted that Taylor’s label had no idea what they were doing beforehand. It also provided Taylor with one of her best music videos yet. This is a good spot for this song.

This song highlights why Miranda is the queen of passive aggressiveness in songwriting. Still, I feel like this song lacks Miranda’s wit in both writing and attitude. None of the lyrics really standout except for the bridge which drops the big reveal, “Here's a bombshell just for you, Turns out I've been lying too.” The chorus is shockingly bland and forgettable, I won’t miss this song. Miranda looks really pretty in the music video though.

Another top 10 gone for me. The funny thing is that I actually find this song pretty lyrically weak for Miranda’s standards. Still, the pure emotion in Miranda’s voice as she sings more than makes up for that. I think it was Miranda’s performance at the CMT’s that truly made me fall love with the song. Homegirl brought down the house with that performance. The fact that this just barely beat White Liar hurts me almost as much as its low placement.

Starting the top 20 is Carrie with All American Girl. Like I said with Last Name, I wish Carrie released more fun singles like this. The song itself is really cute and the chorus is simple and fun enough to be catchy. The music video is probably one of my favorite Carrie videos, it just has the perfect amount of cheesiness to enjoy. Still, I’m okay with this song going now, especially in relation to what Carrie songs are still left.
