I think it can, if it uses more synths again, and if it's more up-beat. Like What's My Name? for example, that's pretty recent and very RnB-influnced, and was a #1 hit.
I think it's possible. It all comes down to radio support.
Also, Adele is not exactly an RnB singer, but she's shown everybody in the music industry that there's a market for more sparse and slower-tempo music. To these RnB/dance crossover artists, perhaps it'll mean they'll give RnB another shot for their main singles?
