As usual people completely miss the point. The KONY campaign was created to create a WORLDWIDE awareness of what this man is doing in Uganda. Its not about an individual organization, its about making ONE MAN famous. Whatever you donate to IC will obviously not all go towards the cause, thats how every single organization in the world works. Invisible Children is trying to help the young kids in Uganda affected by this man and they have succeeded because this organization has single handily put more spotlight on this issue than anyone ever has.

They have already had eleven documentaries. How more aware do you need to be? Kony has been on most-wanted lists across various countries. He has a wholesome bounty on his head (I wanna say a couple million tbh) and the UN has been involved in trying to capture him for years. Capturing Kony has been a priority of Obama before he even took office. Kony isn't new; people are just culturally illiterate and don't read the newspapers. The UN is doing ALL they can do. Awareness becomes ineffective at a certain point and this is it. Reblogging a Kony 2012 poster isn't going to end the war in Uganda. The only thing it is doing is promoting the charity, and when the charity gets promoted the charity gets money. The charity then gives $270,000 to its three founders. This is ridiculous for CEOS of a nonprofit organization. I can't make this ANY clearer for some of you people.

The awareness like "Kony is ****ing vile. Just kill this son of a bitch and the problem will disappear forever." is dangerous and needs to be criticised.

People don't understand the complexity of this issue. IC is emotionally manipulating people into thinking catching Kony is easy as long as we deploy more troops. I can't even begin to describe how painstakingly difficult it would be for the U.S to actually intervene, and by some miracle, manage to find Kony and catch him. We would need intelligence on his whereabouts, etc, etc. Killing Bin Laden didn't happen overnight. It was a plan that accumulated after years and years of intelligence. Taking Kony out of power is imperative but making pretty red posters isn't going to do anything and pressuring the US government into doing more will only make things worse.

My Facebook is flooded with it and I'm almost positive almost half of the people don't realize what the video is about. Bandwagoning at its best.

No.
It is incredibly unlikely that any other organisation will pick up momentum like IC and the man needs to be taken down, their means may not be ideal but the cause is just.
These are the hands of fate, You’re my Achilles heel
This is the golden age of something good and right and real

As if you do.
There's just as much praise IC receives as there are criticisms, so this argument is becoming moot.

I feel really bad for not doing anything about it yet. I want to donate to a GOOD charity. As soon as my history teacher told me only 30% goes to the cause I started thinking they were a bunch of greedy asses.
Is there a GOOD charity that can help with the cause?

Why people on here are SO damn ignorant? Mariska is providing different sources and explanations that validate the stance that IC is not trustable nor vital for Kony's catch, while all you do is repeat the same tired and lazy sentence: ''It's better to do something than nothing''. Helping other charities who will use your money in a good way and better than IC (who also is on the wrong side of the battle) doesn't mean you aren't doing something. As she said, catching Kony is not going to happen any soon and if that happens sex slavery and child over-exploitation is not going to end anytime. Choose your actions right.

Uganda government has taken care of Kony situation, since long time ago. I read about it somewhere. The Secretary of Defense stated by himself that it's far too late for the world to start caring about Kony. Sure he needs to be brought to the international court. But let the Uganda gov do it by themselves, trust them. They've said that they can. IC got it wrong for wanting the US military to 'teach' them about how to get a bad man. Jeez. It's worse than going to stranger's land and claiming that it's your land. I even had this thought that IC peeps think Africans are stupid cause of their goal. Barking about Kony right now wouldn't change a thing, at all. They're already at the healing phase.
Now, it's not only Uganda that went through horrible things like that. Since Uganda has said that they're fine, I guess we need to pay focus to other problems too. Don't make it as a one-off event. This is your wake-up call, that things are worse than what you've thought. Sharing about horrible things on social media wouldn't change a thing without real action. I can suggest the UN's organizations (UNICEF & UNHCR) if you want to donate. They are one of the best that you can find. Or you can also go to Charity Navigator, and pick one of those organizations that you really believe in.
PS: The standard donation is usually around 70 to 80%. NOT 30% and spending the money carelessly on things that are unnecessary.
