The thing is, it would help X-Factor, not Britney. Britney's career slump isn't nearly as significant as J. Lo/Paula Abdul/Christina's were before they became judges, so she doesn't need it like they did. It would be a fun side project for her. She's obviously not where she used to be, but this clearly would not be a "comeback" or any return to the public eye.
But it could also prove that she still has a personality if she lets herself shine. I'd be so happy to see the public fall for her again. The risk is that it would have the opposite effect.

My thoughts exactly.

The she-can't-be-a-judge-because-she-lip-syncs argument is tired. Did y'all say the same thing before Paula Abdul judged American Idol and X Factor contestants for 9 years? Britney can sing very well; she just can't sing and dance at the same time. People give her flack for it now because she doesn't dance like she did years ago. The end.
The X Factor would be perfect for Britney. She always has her finger on the pulse and the show would be able to provide a stable, comfortable environment for her. She'll have to come out of her shell a bit more, but I think because the show won't be inquiring about her life or career (as interviewers do), she'll have no problem talking and offering advice to people.
Oh, and then there's the hefty paycheck.

I think this would help her to get her confidence back. Britney has an amazing personality but she hasn't showed us that part of her in a long time. I think this is a great idea if she takes it seriously and works hard to give her best.

Right. He also said Cheryl could be back next season and a few days later she tweeted that X Factor was part of her past. He's worse than Simon when it comes to creating buzz & controversy.

I wish people would stop saying this. We don't know that and i have no idea why people think that since Britney never takes these HUGE breaks like some other artists do, and has had new music out every year except 2006 and 2010 (she would've had music out faster during the 2006-2007 period but she had kids, the breakdown, etc). She's always in and out the studio during her 'breaks' as well........
She said she's only taking a SHORT break to do more acting......which is what she seems to be doing. I expect a new album by late this year/next year.

Who said Paula was a qualified judge? No one takes her seriously. She lost her job for a reason.

It would be good for the X Factor and for Britney. Her career may not be down in the doldrums like J. Lo/Paula Abdul/Christina's were, but she's not a big force in the industry anymore. She needs to reinvent herself, and if she does it in the right way then it can have a positive impact on her musical career. The past few years have been very lacklustre for her, and although she's still in the public eye, she's not the star she used to be.

Will Britney be lip-syncing the critiques? What if someone presses the wrong button?

Hadn't the contestants and judges lip-synced all the time before, that comment would've been funny.

All the people talking about lip-syncing being an issue - when it's a known fact that contestants lipsync during group numbers on American Idol and X-Factor.
