My Avril senses tell me Things I'll Never Say and Tomorrow could've been smashes
Or at least could've performed better than Losing Grip. What do y'all think?

As Let Go has now released three massively popular singles, interest in the fourth single is sure to drop due to the amount of time and exposure that the record has already had in the public eye. 'Losing Grip', unfortunately, is not as immediately catchy as 'Complicated' or 'Sk8er Boi', nor does it have quite as much emotional power as 'I’m With You', and it will undoubtedly struggle to gain radio airplay as well.
A more suitable choice, however, will be hard to pick. The fourth single needs to be just as good, if not better than the previous releases. That means it needs to be catchy, emotional and relate-able, all at once.

'Losing Grip'’s verses are geared more strongly towards Avril’s female audience, which though being the majority, do not make up more than 60-65% of her fan-base. 'Naked' and 'Too Much to Ask' may also alienate some of her fans for the same reason, and 'Anything But Ordinary' and 'My World' are too specific to Avril herself to be wholly relate-able, which is key for this last release. 'Unwanted', while a strong contender due to its lyrics, might not fare much better than 'Losing Grip'. 'Tomorrow' is emotional but not a strong enough single choice, and while 'Nobody’s Fool' is relate-able, audiences might not take to the more urban sound it has.

And thus we are left with 'Things I’ll Never Say'. Much like 'I’m With You', this song should help promote Avril’s more sensitive side. Being a bubbly, fairly optimistic track, it should be a perfect release for summer. Teenagers and young adults will undoubtably relate to the lyrics, but it isn’t so teen-centered that it fails to hold the interest of an older audience - which would be the case if say, 'Unwanted' was released.
To promote single sales, a single mix could be released instead of the album version, with an additional loop in the intro and bridge (of the da-da-da’s) to take full advantage of the strong hook that the song has. That should place it very nicely at about 3:48 seconds long. These changes will promote single sales - which are bound to be lacklustre given the popularity of the album - without changing the original so far as to upset fans. Releasing a single mix will put out a new version that the album doesn’t have, giving people a reason to purchase it despite already owning Let Go.

With the video we can hopefully strike a balance between the more vulnerable, introspective Avril seen in 'I’m With You' and the youthfulness and energy of 'Sk8er Boi' - hopefully this balance will bring together those who got bored with the former and turned off by the latter. This way, we maintain Avril’s large teenage fan base while also building on the older audience that she gained with the release of 'I’m With You'.
Seeing as she is sometimes perceived as closed off and a bit gruff, this release should hopefully be feminine enough to disprove those who feel her personality is forced or off-putting, strengthen her female fan base and at the same time be general enough to attract - or rather, not turn off - her male audience.

Yes i's one of the weakest songs on LG. ABO should've been the 4th single and then after that smashed either Tommorow or TINS.

But a single mix in 2002/03 probably wouldn't have worked out the same as it might now.
Plus that seems a little reach-y to have a successful single.
I think it'd be just fine the way it is, but I do agree that it doesn't enforce Avril's image at the time.
So maybe it was best to keep the gems unreleased.
But irregardless, I think the era was cut off a little too early.

You're right, it probably wouldn't have. Though to be fair, not much else would have worked any better, just because of the number of people that purchased the album.

Avril never milks her eras like she could. Even TBDT could have lasted a lot longer.

At this point of time I'm over her past eras to be frank, I need to see how 2012 works out for her. Ten years, and it's time to see if she's willing to be as much of a business woman with her music as she is with her clothing line, or if I should just stop expecting more than an album every 2/3 years.

It wouldn't kill her to release a proper fourth single, or a fifth. An up-tempo at the end of TBDT could have slayed, and maybe the album would have sold more.

In any case, I expect effort this next era. I don't see the point of being on a major label if not.

I wouldn't either. If the single, album and era are successful, it's always good to release more single to "milk" it. As long it's not forced, I'm up to it, she's never released a 5th single (she was close with LG and UMS). I also expect effort, not only promoting the single(s) and album but also on the performances and tour.

Exactly. It's not that I'd like her less if she wasn't successful, but she's out there making mainstream music and signed to a huge label, so I expect a certain amount of interest and dedication to her career as a pop star. Promote hard, perform as well as she can.

If she isn't going to strive to be amazing then I'd rather she released albums under her own name, because that just makes more sense. I've been very pleased with her sound progression so far, but now she's done it all and I'd like to know if she wants to continue to explore herself as an artist or would rather just settle in her own comfort zone.

or we can have LG as 4th but they could have released a 5th single knowing that Let Go is the biggest debut that year and she's starting to gain lots of supporters
