From being a normal girl from the Caribbean islands to becoming one of the most prominent popstars on the planet, Rihanna has been through it all. She was discovered at the age of 15 by Evan Rogers. She started her career by releasing her first studio album Music Of The Sun under the management of Roc Nation and Island Def Jam in 2005. Her debut single Pon de Replay did well commercially and peaked at #2 in the US. The album's commercial performance, however, was underwhelming. Rihanna was then threatened to be dropped if her second album followed the same path as her first. Fortunately, the Bajan goddess scored 3 top 10 hits in her sophomore album A Girl Like Me, which went on to sell around 4 million copies.
Chapter 2
2007: The birth of a worldwide SUPERSTAR
Even better, her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, was an absolute hit. It sold over 8 million copies worldwide, thus cementing her status as the IT girl of late 2000s. Ever since, she's been unstoppable. Scoring hit after hit, she has always been expanding her fanbase day by day. Her bob haircut became one of her signature styles, as many girls wanted to have that look. This album also marks the point where she actually took more control over her image, hence the immense change from her previous era.
Chapter 3
8th of February 2009: A night to remember... or maybe to forget?
Outside of her music, one of the marking events in her career was the infamous night before the 2009 Grammys, where Rihanna's boyfriend Chris Brown laid hands on her. That incident became one of the most talked about events in recent pop culture. Rihanna took a small “break” during the following months.
Chapter 4
First a good girl gone bad, now a happy girl gone... Dark?
Rihanna rebounded with her album Rated R, which described her feelings on that. Her first single “Russian roulette” narrated her suicidal thoughts in their smallest details. The whole era had a dark image, in which Rihanna seemed to be taking a more mature path. Her clothes were very high fashion. The era remains till now a fan favorite.
Chapter 5
The lady in red.
Rihanna also went on to release her second most successful album LOUD which featured her iconic red hair and a fluffy, happy, and girly theme throughout the era. It was the return of colorful, joyful, and successful Rihanna and it seemed like the public could not get enough of it. Unfortunately the era came to an end only nine month after. However, that only makes its 6 million copies sold all the more successful.
Chapter 6
Controversy and headlines: Where dem bloggers at?
Talk That Talk and Unapologetic were her two latest releases. Both released in November (as were Rated R and Loud). They feature a more rebellious Rihanna, who didn't fear speaking her mind, and use social network such as twitter and instagram to express her feelings freely. However, the marking event of these two eras is her (Unfortunate) return to her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, which didn't leave the tabloids speechless. In fact, they talked about it, and they talked a LOT. However, judging by her last two album titles, we can’t say that Rihanna tried to stop them.
