Never really got the Madonna comparisons aside from the shot of her in the business suit that's kinda reminiscent of Vogue.
She looks more like Annie Lennox throughout than anyone else, but that comparison isn't as sexy to make.

No, but when people see a blonde popstar striking a b&w pose that screams Vogue coupled with blasphemy, of course they're going to think Madonna. BTW doesn't even sound that much like EY, but the Alejandro video paved the way for people to jump at any opportunity to make the Gaga/Madonna comparison.

I can't recall Madonna ever wearing anything similar to the Joan of Arc-esque latex cape/hood with the cross, though I may be wrong. BR has about the same number of Christian symbols, if you want to get down to brass tacks.
Of course, people were already making the Madonna comparisons even before the video came out, saying the song sounded like La Isla Bonita, even though they sound NOTHING alike beyond both having Spanish words in them, but these are the superficial criteria people will use, so I guess she may as well be prepared for it.

True. If Alejandro never happened, I believe the Madonna comparisons would nowhere be as big as they are now.
And to be really honest, I always thought the video looks more like Express Yourself.

I never got the Madonna comparisons but the Black & White and maybe her looking like Madonna during the break down dances but other than that no just no.
And I'm glad this is one of her best songs and one of her best videos it belongs in the top 5 of her best videos and you gerls will deal.

Gaga could eat a sandwich and people would say she's copying Madonna. The only "blatant" homage/rip off in this video is the black and white part and I think it's more than obvious that it was done on purpose, maybe even to piss people off.

Yeah it was obvious when the Alejandro video premiered that in the future if she did ever did anything that looked or sounded even remotely like Madonna, it would blow up in her face. Fast forward to 2011...
