Who Jennifer Lawrence doesn't resemble, even in costume.
Lol.
Jennifer Lawrence is probably the better actress anyway. She portrays Katniss perfect in the trailers. You can totally see the mad face, she suppossedly always has in the books.
No it doesn't. Katniss knowing who her father was is a huge part of the series. Have you read enough of the books to be discussing this? And if you look at the cast list there are going to be multiple minorities as important characters. Hell, even looking at the trailers you can see there are multiple minorities.
Are you just going by what you read in articles?
I read the first one, which is all I need, a while ago; I didn't care enough to read the others. I meant that her father isn't present in the first book, so unless the movie has some flashback sequences, it wouldn't be impossible to reason why Katniss and Primrose don't resemble one another. Plus, general moviegoers aren't as dumb as production companies expect. I'm pretty sure that they known traits can very amongst siblings, so why would Katniss' sister's appearance affect the casting of Katniss? Look at this trailer and tell me if you saw more than four minorities.

How can you assess the better actress when one wasn't even permitted to audition, which is the point of the writer's article?
Gary Ross only looked for a white lead because he knew it would sell the movie. Its disgusting and saddening. What's even worse is that Suzanne Collins defended the decision. Basically selling out her ideals for this movie. The industry is a mess.
What's with the meltdown about Jennifer lawrence as katniss? I actually like the idea. By just knowing she was nominated for the oscars before, i already approved of her.

Gabourey Sidibe was nominated for an Oscar too. That doesn't mean she's right for every role that is given to her.
Like I'm so sick of people using that excuse. It wouldn't be as much of a problem if they actively went looking for more racially diverse girls but they didn't. They only looked for white girls. Its just sad. Idk how people can defend it.

Wait? Are we arguing over the fact that Jennifer is too white again?
Haven't we gotten past that about a year ago? 0_o
Guys, yes, Katniss has olive skin...but it's not that big a deal. Just because she doesn't look identical to the book description doesn't mean she can't portray the character well.
Acting is the most important aspect of whether or not she can play a character. And I personally think she plays Katniss outstandingly, despite the fact that she 'doesn't really look like her.'
If you want to watch a film where everything depends on how well the characters match the book descriptions, go watch Twilight.
The casting for The Hunger Games was based on, not even talent, but on how well these people bring these characters to life. It's kind of petty to say Jennifer is "so totally completely wrong" for the part just because she doesn't look exactly like Katniss. Performance over looks. Would you rather have someone who looks exactly like Katniss but can't act like her?
Let's try to be a little open minded.
"Thank you for reminding me of why I'm sick inside. Thank you for the venom, did you think it would paralyze? These scars I scratch, I tear, are there under my skin where you've always been. Thank you for reminding me to SIN WITH A GRIN :D"
I stan for: Shinedown - Three Days Grace Hardcore fan of: Evanescence - Daughtry - Nirvana - Apocalyptica - Kris Allen - LIGHTS - Breaking Benjamin
Aside from that, I learned some fantastic news (well, imo, anyways.)
The songs on the soundtrack will not be in the film. It's a companion soundtrack like the one for Alice in Wonderland. The film will be scored. Only scored. Which I think is PERFECT. Any other way would have been cheesy, in my opinion. Especially for a film like this where it's so violent.
In regards to Safe & Sound, it's going to be in the credits. But aside from that, it's going to be a scored film.

didn't even consider actresses of other ethnicities who fit the description. I would rather someone who looks exactly like Katniss have the opportunity to audition for the role, so that the person could be considered apt or not.

White girls weren't the only ones allowed to audition. Lyndsy Fonseca was one of the final contenders for Katniss and she's Portuguese (and she fits a pretty good physical description of Katniss). Kaya Scodelario was also a final contender and she's part Brazilian.
At the end of the day, Jennifer got the part because she can play Katniss well. If you've read any of the articles that have come out lately, you know that Gary Ross admitted to being "floored" by her incredible portrayal.
Oscar nominated or not, she can act. I don't understand how anyone can see any of the trailers or TV spots and not see that.
I know this is your opinion. I fully respect it. (I don't mean to come off as bitchy. If I do, then I'm terrible sorry!! D; ) I just disagree with the fact that looks are more important than talent and portrayal in a book to screen adaption.

Most of the characters in twilight don't even match the book.
Anyway, you are missing the point COMPLETELY.
It is NOT about looking like Katniss. Its about race. Katniss' race was purposely left ambiguous in the books yet they chose to solely look for white girls. They did not look for anyone else racially differently. And you can say Kaya this or Lyndsey that but they are both seen as white girls. They did not bother to explore outside of any race other than white which isn't right.
There is really no way you can defend it. Do I think Jennifer is right for the role? Sure, she's amazing. But that really doesn't change how wrong this whole thing was.

That was almost obvious. OMG, can't wait till the soundtrack is released, cause S&S its flawless.
