They seem to be recreating the Wickery Bridge car accident in which Elenas parents died. My guess is they fed her Vampire Blood after she collapsed and then when the car which presumably has Matt and Elena in it falls, they both die but Elena becomes a Vamp since the blood was still in her system.

I'm really happy Klaus is gone but not fully gone, I am here for him coming back in the future of the show I don't think they'll bring him back next week though, they really played his character out in that final scene!

Matt would be Xander if he was "normal", but he's just not involved enough in the storylines.

Elena is chronically in trouble. Katherine doesn't need saving, maybe that's why Stefan and Damon don't like her

Also, they're doing another Buffy season finale thing. For those who remember:

Primeval/Restless. In Primeval the gang destroyed Adam, the season's Big Bad. It led into Restless, a random feeling finale about dreams. The point is, they took out the main villain in the episode before the finale. Since they didn't know yet if they'd be renewed I suspect it's a cliffhanger ending.

The part where Klaus started throwing random stuff at Elena's house was so tacky

Anyway this was a decent episode. They're setting the path for the new season. I don't really want Matt to die, he's my favorite human character (and he's actually the only one we have left besides Jeremy, Sheriff Forbes and the Mayor). Tyler should be dead instead

Yea, plus in the books that's the exact same way she was turned. Her car crashed into the water from the bridge and she had both Stefan's and Damon's blood in her system and turned. Hopefully that happens, I'm kinda ready for Vamp Elena.

Old Alaric was pretty boring. Like any guy on the show though, he had attraction to Elena. With Nina Dobrev playing her, who can blame him? She's ****ing gorgeous.

Van Helsing Alaric is much better than boring school teacher Alaric. Either Alaric could easily take Elena in a fight though. This time Alaric may be able to beat Katherine though.

This is EXACTLY who I always think of just that Xander at least had purpose and wasn't boring. Matt is so flat and useless. I have no use for him and wanted him to die since the start of the second season.

I never really liked Alaric, either, to be honest, because he was pretty boring.

I want Elena to never turn... ever. But I guess this would be the time for it to happen..
