I was definitely excited for The Best Damn Thing when it was announced. Girlfriend I grew onto in an instant and that song was my JAM in 2007 (and 7th grade).

I bought the album in July, when I really started getting into music. I loved it. It was so upbeat and I really liked all the tracks. And the singles.

Now, WHY was there so much hate towards this album? All Avril wanted to do was have fun. I mean come on, she was married at the time and she was happy! She can't be the same forever. I actually feel like the first two albums helped vent out a lot of feelings, and that let her release her young & wild at heart side of herself.

And not only that, but A LOT of artists do something different and they didn't get as much backlash. I mean, there was Britney after I'm a Slave 4 U, and then we had P!nk transition from R&B to Pop Rock, we had Nelly Furtado go to Timbaland Pop sound, and they ALL were well loved.

Yet when Avril decided to have a MUCH more fun side with her third album, all her fans stab her in the back and don't support her.

I mean, it wasn't as bad as Miley's backlash, but still.

Why did Avril get so much hate?

It's not like she "went Britney" Only thing that's common with her would be the blond hair, her style and sound was still different from Brit's and the other girls'. I mean has she ever done a dance/electropop song?

The album still has flawless gems though.

She didn't trash them. Tabloids liked to pretend they did and TBDT is totally different to Britney's music.

Anyway it was a drastic change.She had a very different style, attitude and music. Personally I think it's a good thing as it showed she was a versatile artist and not a one trick pony.. TBDT is also better than her 1st 2 albums IMO.

Just so ya'll know, she never trashed Britney or any other pop girl, the media liked to think she did.

Because she sold out. She did what she had bashed Britney for 4 years earlier.

TBDT is a really solid album, but it was disappointing after Under My Skin imo, which is still one of my favourite albums ever.
