Cause I mean... to the general public... Lana's only known for crashing and burning on SNL. So you can't really base off of general public's knowledge. Janelle's single was far more successful than Lana's album, if we're going just off commercial superiority, soooo....

Maybe I was wrong about that, but I've only heard of her recently because of WAY. I never knew she had an album out 2 years prior. I barely remember when she performed at Grammy's, tbh.

And people barely remember that Lana embarrassed herself on SNL. You have to remember that sales are not the only expression of how good you're doing. They're nice and dandy for an indie pop artist but if she was truly doing something Lana would be slaying the other girls like right now

Janelle is superior in every way possible, and I hope she finds success soon. If she never does, then that's cool. It seems that she has a cult following.

I voted for Janelle Monae. I love Lana's lyrics and studio voice, but she's certainly bland and vapid when it comes to stage presence, vocals, and even style. I do like her vintage-retro image, but I think that if you're gonna rely on your style to represent the artistry of your lyrics and set up a whole scenario, the least you can do to pull off a great performance is to polish your vocals skills to go along with it.
Her vocals are extremely weak, and off most the times, which kills the mood in her performances and makes them lack of emotion.
Example: Adele. She also plays to put a simple, slick, classy scene but she knows how to back it up with her vocals.
