No...I like Avril but WTH was just...ugh. As someone else said, it had a dated sound and it didn't bring anything new... to anything. It just sounded like a less mature more generic version of herself.

edit: I admit, I like Smile though. Still can see why it wouldn't smash however.

Yes. It was my 2nd fave single from last year (my 1st was You and I).

No. It was like they didn't even put any effort into it and just tried to make the most generic radio friendly sounding song ever. It was too similar to other songs out at the time and got lost in the crowd. Plus it seemed forced to me, if I remember correctly Avril didn't even want it on the album so it seemed like she didn't even care about it that much.

Yes. I think the production on the song is great. It's a nice pop song. The reason why it didn't do better, was because it showed nothing new of Avril. It was in the same lane as her previous era.

No, she should have gone for a more mature sound. It was a disappointing lead single because it just seemed like a continuation of "Girlfriend".

If you played "Complicated" and "what the hell" to a person who was unfamiliar with her music and asked them to determine which one was released by a teenage girl and which was released by a young adult woman, they would likely say that "Complicated" was by the adult woman.

This younger sound is not making her marketable. I think it's having the opposite effect. She should focus on transitioning to a more adult audience.

Yess! I literally bought the whole album because of that one song and I even posted my reciept in the album thread Turns out, I was disappointed with the rest of the album because there wasnt any other up-temp song but that's irrelevant. Bottom line is YES it should've smashed harder than it did.
