ATRL's Top 100 Songs of the 20th Century (The top 2!)

With all of the lists going on throughout ATRL right now, I thought that it was interesting that no one has thought about doing a list of songs yet, and I really wanted to take on the task of doing that list myself. Instead of doing an all time list, however, and instead of doing a 21st century list (because Ace and MP2K already did that), someone (a mod that likes a certain Australian singer/actress) suggested an idea that hasn't been done yet. With that suggestion, I decided to take on my toughest task to date: The Top 100 Songs of the 20th Century. Why the 20th Century? Because, honestly, the results would just be a lot more interesting than an all time list, because the all time list would be heavily slanted toward the 2000's (see the Albums list going on right now for proof of that statement). And besides, there are so many great songs from before the 21st century that it would be impossible not to come up with at least a top 20, right?
Of course, with any list, there are going to be some ground rules. What kind of ground rules, you may be asking? Well, I'm glad you asked!
- I've decided to limit the amount of songs per artist that any given person can vote for to two. I really don't want such a list to become dominated by a few specific artists. Variance is always key.
- I haven't considered limiting the amount of songs per artist on the actual list yet, but it will be considered if certain artists make up the majority of the list otherwise, even with the voting limit imposed.
- I will allow people to vote for non-singles, but I would strongly encourage voting for singles regardless, as those songs have a much more likely chance of actually making the list.
- Any song from any decade in the 20th century is eligible. I mean, obviously. And by 20th century, I mean from the years 1900 to 1999, or the commonly accepted 20th century. That also means that any song that was on an album or album session (aka b-side, etc.) released or made before January 1, 2000 is eligible to make the list.
As for what I want you guys to do, there is one thing that you need to do and one thing that I'd like for you to do. I'd like for you guys to consider offering me some suggestions on improving or even adding to the ground rules. Anything that would help make this list even better is a good thing, so offer suggestions.
The things that I'm going to need, obviously, are your top 20s. I need you to send your top 20s, ranked from 1 (your favorite song) to 20, to me via PM by no later than Saturday, May 26th at 11:59pm EDT. This date and time is subject to change, but don't count on it.
With all of that out of the way, let the madness (and the rankings) commence!
Top 100 So Far:
Song of the Moment
Volbeat - The Hangman's Body Count
I welcome the rain
And as you walk the final top
They will start to dark my past
Nothing counting in this world
See the valley turn to darkness on your way

Edit: Oh wait, 20th century? Still very cool, but this will be a huge mess knowing ATRL...

While this avoids the problem of post-2000 concentration, I still have a feeling it might lean heavily towards the 90s, since a lot of members here were born around then and might not have been introduced to earlier music. I'm not sure if it's worth it to add any additional stipulations about representing different decades, though.

Admittedly, this has a MUCH smaller chance of being a mess than the Albums list being run by leaked-iT, given the restrictions. I still fear that a couple of artists will dominate the top 100, though.

Yeah, I really didn't want to place any more stipulations than I already had. If I tried to force people to vote for songs from the 60's and 70's as well, I'm well aware that far less people would actually participate. If there are a majority of songs from the 80's and 90's, then so be it. The 60's and 70's will be represented in some way still, I'm sure.

I barely know songs before 1970s but this will be interesting. Most of my 60s music are from Forest Gump and the overrated Beatles songs and other overrated hits.

Yeah, that's definitely true.
And don't worry, I have a feeling that my list will be almost entirely 60s songs. There's too much good music from that era to go unrecognized
