This isn't terribly related to the topic, but she'll flop horribly if she goes back to The Fame Monster, and I mean horribly. Nobody wants Bad Romance again, as Judas showed us. Even at the height of her power, Alejandro took the wind out of her sails. The public doesn't like that imagery, they don't like that sound, and I don't like the idea of her running backwards.

And unless this Princess Diana song is some metaphorical dance floor anthem or Poker Face-level catchy song, she needs to stay away from that too.

Darker is good as long as it sounds good. BTW isn't that dark in my opinion. It's just a different sound. I hope the next album is more like a combination of born this way and the fame sound wise. I like songs like Judas and Bloody Mary, but I don't like a lot of BTW. The Fame and TFM were better.

Judas flopped because of the chorus. if it didn't use such a negative biblical reference, people would've normally liked it.

Alejandro semi-flopped, true, because of the imagery. however, why did Bad Romance and Telephone thrive? even though the songs themselves didn't have deep meaning and imagery, the videos did. if we are talking by the standards you state, then those two would've done much worse than they did, yet they are the two most successful TFM hits and two of her most successful hits so far.

and whether the individual singles did poorly or not doesn't discredit that she gained a more definite fanbase because of TFM, more people became interested in her in that era, she received much more praise for it than she did in The Fame. so you're wrong, the era wasn't a flop, if anything it received much more praise than Born This Way, and that's the one that got the album sales.

Don't give me ******** about how Judas flopped because of just this or just that. Judas flopped because it made stupid religious references, was a painfully obvious re-tread, and was abrasive as hell. It was a commercial failure on every level.

Of course The Fame Monster was successful, but being naive enough to believe that if you go back to the idea of a decaying popstar and the same musical techniques you used to WOW the world with three years ago, it's going to work again isn't going to help anyone.

You might hate me for saying this but if she will go darker than BTW I only see her sales go down.

I can't get why she don't mix up some TF/TFM in that, I mean she lost so much fans that liked her for those 2 eras with Born This Way.

I was kinda of a stan back than at The Fame era but I fail to conncet to more than half of BTW album.
