I always enjoyed popular music (whatever was on the radio) but she was the 1st one to really make me sit up and pay attention to pop music.
And then she abandoned it

I grew up with Britney, but completely lost interest in her & pop music in general circa 2004-5. Then Just Dance came out and I was instantly drawn to her. She definitely reinvigorated my interest.

Yes, I started listening to Pop music more when Gaga made her debut because she incorporated more of a Dance sound and at that time I was 18-19 and clubbing a lot on the weekends, therefore listening to House/Electro more often than not.

She was the first artist I actually paid attention to, but then again I was 13 when I first heard Just Dance

Pop music was totally non-existent for me before Gaga! The only thing I heard was Evanescence, Nightwish and Within Temptation. She has definitely made pop music more interesting and fun, at least for me
ATRL should be thankful she came to the scene cause it sure wouldn't be the same without her around..

Before Gaga, i was listening to Reggaeton, Hip-hop, Salsa, Bachata etc. and all this type of music that didn't satisfy my faggity needs.
But once i found out about her music, imagery, vison etc. she made me discover my true musical niche, pop music and once i discovered, I explored and that's how I became interested in artist like Britney, Madonna, Cher, Michael Jackson etc.
And for that very reason, she will always be embedded in my gay existence.

Gaga brought THOUGHT, CREATIVITY, and RISK to pop- and before her pop was completely lacking of all of those things. So I'm super thankful for her- for making pop music interesting and intellectual.
but then the pop scene turned into something horrible. As usual- everyone in the pop scene tried to just follow whatever was 'working' and 'making money' and 'getting attention'... and people were trying to be risky and controversial and intellectual but they were doing it badly. Lots of people- the ones who started dressing weird on the VMA/grammy carpets specifically, made a mockery out of what gaga did for pop music and showed that pop music can never be saved. Bitches wearing chicken around their necks and ****. Let me stop.

To put it bluntly, I didn't give a flop about music in general until I discovered her in August of 2008.
Today, I even make my own music... it'll never compare to hers, but because of her, I discovered that I had a firm grasp of music theory.

One of the most meteoric beginnings of the past decade in the music scene. She made pop culture relevant for me.

I totally get what you're saying. EVERYONE Except Britney started changing their style after Gaga came to the scene. Everyone wanted to make their music videos as crazy as hers and much much more examples so lemme stop too

I really like Gaga. So much of her music is really good and she did a lot for pop music and culture in general.
I just don't acknowledge her that often on ATRL because her stans get to me more than they should.

I agree. For a while it felt like pop music was just endless hip-hop r&b retreads, sprinkled with pop-rock and the occasional dance tracks that slipped onto radio. But when Gaga came onto the scene, (my first taste of her was that Fame short film when it was uploaded onto Perez Hilton) she made her pop music a legitimate brand.
With her unique and over-the-top image, her enjoyable music (which I admit, didn't break any molds, but at the time, some elements were exciting), her involved and memorable performances, and how she approached her fans. Her now overly gay-leaning imagery and politik were understated at the time, but she was quick to embrace the gay community as she rose the ranks of fame whereas most rising stars would've shied away from that sort of controversy. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think any fan base really had a name until Lady Gaga started to call all her fans little monsters at her shows and on twitter.
I remember all the interviewers would always ask her about why she called them little monsters, and she'd always appear so grateful and joyful for the love and support. It was a mutual affection and it really helped build her mythology as a star so quickly.
