Was The ArchAndroid an instant classic?

I mean, come on. The genre-hopping is ridiculous. The SCREAM on Come Alive (The War Of The Roses) is just AMAZING.
I think this will be a record that grows to be appreciated as an artistic triumph over time because it really is on a completely different plane than the entirety of music being put out today, both mainstream and alternative. It completely defies the norms of an album for our times.

I agree that it's not necessarily catchy or hook-heavy. It reminds me a lot of 70s rock and roll in that way, actually. Albums like Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here, where you really have to take the time to listen to it as an entire work.
It's not for everyone, and it wouldn't surprise me that a lot of this board wouldn't love it. That's okay though.

Everytime I listen to CA(TWOTR) I'm just amazed. Who would expect such a magnificent, versatile voice from Janelle? I certainly didn't.

It was not my kind of album but I couldn't help but get into it and love it. it is indeed amazing and a classic.

Yes, absolutely. The album was, and remains, miles above anything else happening in music right now.
For those of you picking it apart track by track, it's no wonder you don't use it - that's not how the album is meant to be consumed. It's a concept piece within the larger framework of an ongoing narrative. I for one, cannot wait for the future suites. 
If you want catchier hooks, try Ke$ha.

In terms of quality, sure. However, while I love this album to death I think it will be forgotten. It received tons of acclaim when it came out but none of that spread to the public in any way whatsoever and her momentum was killed completely. At least a tiny bit of mainstream awareness would be necessary to really propel it to "classic" status. I barely even see people who loved it when it came out talking about it.
