Born to Die - Lana Del Rey

Score - 85/100

Best Tracks- Dark Paradise, Born To Die, Lucky Ones, Without You, Off To The Races, National Anthem

Amazing album, lyrically it is perfect, only flaw is that there are too many string-filled songs, and it could really use few more uptempo tracks.

As the album starts it goes from strength to strength - going from the mesmerising Born To Die, to the genius lyrics of Off To The Races, the passionate Blue Jeans, the beautiful Video Games, to the aptly named, anthem-ic National Anthem (well at least it does on my iPod because Diet Mountain Dew has been deleted) At this point, the album is a solid 85/100. Then Dark Paradise happens. It's an OK song, but it's a bit boring, I think. Oh well, every album has its slow parts. But then Radio happens. Then Carmen. THEN Million Dollar Man. By the time Summertime Sadness comes round, my head is on my desk thinking it can't get any more dull, dreary or tedious. But the cherry on top of the pile of **** that is the latter half of the album is This Is What Makes Us Girls. It's so utterly boring, it almost kills my enjoyment of the 5 amazing tracks.

I award this album a 55/100. The majority is dreary, and it's saved only by its promising beginning.

Reviews: Lana's emotional debut album struck a cord with the general public. Even with a failed SNL performance and backlash from the blogsphere, she still manages to come out on top. Baroque pop ballads and dark sadcore hip-hop songs dominate most of the album, with lighter fluffier songs coming into save it from drowning in its own tears. Overall a solid album that will be the basis of comparison for every single other indie act out there, and will be a prime example of a successful crossover.
