Both ladies have passed away within the last year, both very young. They both covered the Leon Russell/Donny Hathaway classic 'A Song For You' on their last albums (Amy's posthumous release)

Same song but they both did such different versions. I love both but I have to say I prefer Amy's.

I like Whitney's, but Amy captured the darkness of the song really well. Whitney's is an interesting, bittersweet take and the dance-y production is really different for the song but she sounds kind of Breathless even on record, especially in the beginning. The production on Amy's is nice and I prefer Amy's vocals, even if she mumbles throughout half of it.

Sad thing is, they both covered it really recently before their deaths too, eerie.

Amy's mumbling was probably down to the fact that she didn't realize she was being recorded.

Salaam Remi said that he was at her house back in 2009 and they were making some demos for her third album and she picked up her guitar and just randomly started singing this and he hit record while she was singing. He said she cried all the way through.

I was like that too, but one night it just CLICKED.

What I love about both of these versions is how broken their voices are; their addictions ultimately killed them, but made their voices so textured.
