It's not exactly over-analysis. These comparisons and images are kind of all his team and the media have talked about and produced over the past several months. I don't think I'm conjuring it.

The teaser part was initially supposed to be the video. It was shot by by Tilley, but after they had finished shooting it probably got bad feedback because of the lack of plot/fact that the dark and "sexy" theme was tryhard and doesn't really match up with anything but the verses etc. So they pushed the release date back and re-shot the video. But obviously they had already released the teasers with the original visuals so they still had to chuck it in somewhere.
And yes, Usher was a child star.

Collin Tilley slays They should def stuck to the original version

That **** up at 0:32 ruined any chance of this video being slightly good.

Let's set a thing straight first. How do you, team Bieber, define 'Icon'?Cause for me and many, Bieber is far from 'icon'.

Well of course his team would say things like that. Nicki Minaj was supposed to be creating a new genre and yet we got nothing original, some of the most generic (and worst) pop songs of the year and barely anything above average. And even Boyfriend was supposed to be this incredible never-before-done song yet all we got was a load of foolish lyrics and a chorus taken straight out of 2002...

He's talked a lot in the past about how his greatest idol is Michael Jackson, and he's clearly addressed the work of MJ, Elvis and most recently, the look of James Dean. The first bit of the video sort of feels like a tease of what he wants to do, what he looks up to in pop, the type of iconic character he wishes to be for today's world. But it sort of rears back to reality and what he's trying to do right now, which is transitioning from child star to adult pop singer. He knows there's only one man that's made that transition successfully this millennium because that man is one of the two people that tried to sign him in the beginning.

There's a difference between a successful singer and an ICON. successful singers have hit singles or good music, ICONS have an influence. ICONS let you talk. whatever AN ICON does is a talk in the crowd. for example justin's premiere of his video is BIG DEAL, everyone's gonna talk about it, not just his fans.
I can go on if you have time
The Beatles were hated this much. Eminem was hated this much.
but at the end of the day they set records.

I didn't say they were doing anything industry-shifting. They really haven't released much material either, and they never really said anything in particular about this video. They just hyped it commercially without making any comments on its content.
I said Team Bieber is self-aware. They know what Bieber wants to be, who he's inspired by, what he could try to do, but living through this hard transition is what he has to do.

Ok, I see. But just because Bieber wants to do something, doesn't mean he will be able to do so. For one, he clearly wants to sing "Urban" music, yet he doesn't even have a remotely urban edge to his voice to fully pull it off. He's not even on Jesse McCartney's level.

Well... that was fun.
I'm dying at the fact we have to hear the first 30 seconds of the song twice. Why though?
