Hunger Games being old makes it all the more impressive for Avengers.

I think Hunger Games lower International total has to do with the plot. It's set in the United States after some apocalyptic event that sent us back to the stone age for awhile. I doubt people in China, India, France, or England, etc care too much about a dystopian America since they can't relate to it. Anime/Manga don't really work here as well because they are often set in Japan or China, in these futuristic, or even past settings we just don't know or care about.
Hunger Games is a great story, but it's definitely an American story.

Agreed, but comic book movies are also fairly local to the US. EW wrote an entire article about that this week: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/04/2...ffice-opening/

So, it's taking 5 weeks and 6 people with super powers to take down one poor girl with a bow and arrow from a dystopian future.

You are so pressed. And can't read. The Avengers has already taken in on it's first weekend internationally, what the Hunger Games has been able to take in it's whole entire box office run internationally. Why not just congratulate rather then being irate about it?
or just STAY MAD!

This. I want it to make $200M+ domestically overall!
But $140-180M is more likely

Wow, have you and reality met? Take a look at the new Title of the thread. It's comparing Avengers to the Hunger Games internationally. As I said in my reply after I said why I think that was.
Figure out why some replies in here are disjointed as the Subject Line changes over time will ya? You can't be new here forever.

I can't even follow what point you're trying to make.
The fact of the matter is that The Avengers is flat-out destroying The Hunger Games, and I don't see how anything you've said changes the fact that it's going to stomp on THG's lifetime gross in seven days or makes it any less impressive. Marvel movies are usually local, just as THG is local.
Transformers is an American movie. The difference (or similarity, locally) between THG and The Avengers is that Americans fall for hype harder than any other country, and we've developed a habit of buying into mediocre, accessible book series turned movies. Meanwhile, you can force feed the rest of the world a big CGI **** and they'll deepthroat it.

Some really are & IDK why. There's a good gap between Avengers & TDKR to both get some good spotlight. I'm a DC fangirl myself through & through with some Marvel then and there hitting me but I'm really happy all these years of build-up has paid off for The Avengers.
Still not buying into that whole 3D nonsense, though.

And it already outgrossed The Hunger Games internationally? Wow!
I've never been a massive Marvel fan, but I'm really excited for this one, I don't know why. I've never seen any of these characters' previous movies.
