I mean without being shady, BOMT is just a popular, cheesy, bubblegum pop song is it not? It's not an important part of musical history and it had no impact other than being one of those massive hits that you kind of remember from years ago...
|
None of them is comparable to BOMT. When I was younger I remember that in every school activity someone would perform BOMT in front of the school and that not only happened in my school but according to my friends, in theirs too. Its cultural impact is greater than any other song that has been released since then. People still remember the song, the video and the outfit.
Not only was a #1 hit in every country it charted, but also became an anthem.

Don't even bother girl. The fact that she included I Gotta Feeling one of the most forgettable Number Ones to top the charts for 10+ weeks is beyond me.

Of course. We are in the age of singles.
I'd dare to say Umbrella, Rolling in the Deep, Just Dance are just as big success wise.

That's because it's the song of YOUR generation.
But it is in no way comparable to much bigger hits such as:
Hail Mary by Tina Turner
Billie Jean or Thriller by Michael Jackson
Like a Virgin by Madonna
R-E-S-P-E-C-T by Aretha Franklin
I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston
It's Iconic, but that doesn't mean other songs won't come.

Maybe sometime in the future it will happen. We need that late 90s-esque bubblegum pop to come back in full force. Artists like Carly Rae Jepsen and One Direction are slowly bringing that back. Even Nicki did it with "Starships" in my opinion. I just want to see more of it. Soon I think it will be a possibility.

If no song as made a bigger impact than BOMT, we are in a very, very bad place in music. I still bop to it though.

You need source to prove that the song is still played, not the other way round gurl.
Like, your need proof to convince people that Big Foot is out there, cuz its non-existence is a given.

He said "no one listens to it anymore", not "radios don't play it anymore" - big difference.

I don't hear this song anywhere now. It aged terribly. Not in commercials, not in singing contest, not in TV shows, not in anything.

crazy is a masterpiece.
History will show a dark time in our culture in which a million followers on Twitter became a key component to winning a Grammy. But thank God for Pink. While Christina Aguilera has a tendency to oversing, Britney Spears can't sing, and Lauryn Hill sorta stopped singing, Pink has managed to carve a brilliant 13-year-career by being something that is incredibly rare these days -- an artist. A complete artist. - CNN
