Let's be honest here, Marina did an amazing job on this album.
Her voice, the lyrics, the production, it's a pretty perfect pop album.
And the concept is excellent too but the critics are way too lazy to look into it so they think it's a 'wannabe Katy Perry' record.
I'm sure she and her label knew already that the critics wouldn't understand it.
It's not an easy concept like other pop records..

So **** you to the critics and GO MARINA.
She knows her fans understand it and that's all that counts.

Thank you. Like, pop records are usually the records that get lower scores, not more complex/concept-built records. The ArchAndroid is way more literary than Electra Heart WISHES it was, and it's one of the best reviewed albums of all time. These excuses are ridiculous.

When people say the concept is complex, what they're saying is its more complex than simply Electra Heart being an alter ego.

And clearly many reviewers haven't got that or why else would so many refer to it as an Alter-ego. I don't care how clever a reviewer is meant to be or how many hours they had to sit through an album if they are going to critique the execution of a concept at least make sure its the concept the actual artist is trying to create not the one the reviewer thinks they're trying to create.

If they don't like the album just say it, if they have to mention the concept they could actually research it thoroughly first to make sure they're on the same page instead of misrepresenting the album in their review.

No. A lot of reviewers don't really know what they're talking about. Some of them still call Marina a "band" (she's a solo artist), and a lot of them think that Electra Heart is an "alter ego" or "antithesis" of Marina, when that's not what the album is about.

Electra Heart is made up of different archetypes (personalities). Marina chose these archetypes based on what she sees in herself (so not an alter ego or antithesis). It's cleverly put together, but the concept is too deep for the average critic.

But those pop records with simple subjects are the ones that get metascores in the 40s-60s range. Just like Marina's album is getting.

Not really. She can dress it up all she wants with her oh-so-artistic tumblr posts, but the concept started as an alter-ego, "becoming the person she's not," etc. The concept isn't that deep, and it's not executed well. The critics didn't "not understand" it, like you guys want them so badly to. They think it's a bad, kind of shallow concept, just like a lot of people do. Again, albums like The Archandroid or Have One On Me are MUCH more complex and received MUCH higher critical acclaim.

Why do stans say this everytime? Its like a stage in the process of your fave having a mediocre album.
