Standout Tracks: Hold It Against Me, Inside Out, I Wanna Go

I was so excited for Brit's 7th album, especially after hearing Hold It Against Me, which is, by far, the standout track on the album. I was also excited when the snippets for the album were made available (especially for I Wanna Go and Inside Out). However, listening to the album as a whole, there is tons of filler, with only a few great tracks. Most of the tracks achieve being fun and light-hearted, but some of them sound forced and uninspired (like Big Fat Bass, the worst song on the album IMO). Other tracks are pretty catchy, such as Trouble For Me, Up n' Down, and Till the World Ends, but the tracks overall sound pretty flat. I know Brit's voice is never grouped with some of the great vocalists today, but her vocals are so overproduced on this album, it makes them sound even worse. Her voice isn't terrible, and it's very distinct, so I wish her producers would have let her voice shine a little more. I really wish she would have had more HIAM-like tracks on the album, but I was sadly disappointed. The great tracks are really great, but rating this album as a whole makes it impossible to overlook the shortcomings in her voice and the other, more disappointing tracks. Where is the personality?

why exactly does she need "personality". she's not out to make "the album of the generation". she's out to make POP MUSIC. pop music that could make you dance. that's it. nothing more.

Because some people think personality/innovation/creativity defines whether an album is good or not.

Believe me, FF having personality wouldn't have improved the score a lot. The other shortcomings are far more detrimental. It just felt disconnected and forced. Dance/pop music can have personality, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. I think Madonna's music is a great example of music that has personality.

You seem pressed that not everyone agrees with you and doesn't have the same standards as you.

Exactly, and with it coming from the person who gave BTW a 25 and PF:RR a 10....he just seems pressed.

i rate albums on what they're meant to be.

Femme Fatale got a great review becuase it was meant to be a pop album. (and it did that)
Born This Way got an awful review because it was meant to be the album of the generation. (and it didn't do that)

my score for BTW would have been extremely higher if she hadn't hyped the album.

I'm not sure you know what you're trying to say.

the album is bad because she tried so hard.
she tried to make a great album and she failed.
had she not put up with her hype and just made a regular album.
none of the hate would be happening.
and she would have sold much, much more.
but since she hyped the album, she had a lot of pressure.
and she failed. get it?

I'm not arguing with your opinion. You can think any album is trash. You were just changing what you were saying about WHY it was bad. I was just making you see that you weren't being consistent. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I'm not arguing with anyone's score per se, though it does seem like you always have your scores at either extremely high or extremely low. That's fine, though...feel how you want about any album, but then don't come after me in my review for FF asking for more personality This is ATRL...you can't be pressed at every person who doesn't love the same music you do. It's all in fun, anyway.
