They need to get their music more up-to-date than this before having such a big claim.
I mean, they can't even deliver latest music from fun., Norah Jones, John Mayer or even Madonna.
I'm wishing them the best though.

http://open.spotify.com/album/7iycyHwOW2plljYIK6I1Zo
Madonna Give Me all your luving and girl on wild are both there
http://open.spotify.com/track/66G6rwvTVGLCaxadWrupg1
http://open.spotify.com/track/1W9eWMpfvJVke8ZlWiSFSh
Norah Jones new music? (what songs?.....I will search to see if it's there if I know the song name)
John Mayer Shadow Days
http://open.spotify.com/track/3Pphyi26BJChzSiNSGAqcb
The famous Spotify holdouts are:
Adele's 21
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Metallica
Bob Seger
The Eagles
When Itunes first came out, several famous artists also don't put music on there to protect their CD sales. History is repeating itself.
If they don't want to share in Spotify $500-600 million annual revenue, it's their decision. Global subscription music is probably over $1 billion a year revenue by now. They might ignore it now but they can't ignore it forever especially when it is growing at 65% (2010 to 2011).

It grew from 1 million to 3 million in a space of ~10 months (March 2011 to Jan 2012).
January, 2010:------------ 250,000 paid subscribers
March 17, 2010:----------- 320,000
July 20, 2010: ---------------- 500,000
December 8, 2010: ------ 750,000
March 8, 2011:--------------- 1,000,000
July 14, 2011: -----------------1,600,000
Sept 21, 2011: ---------------- 2,000,000
Nov 23, 2011: ------------------2,500,000
Jan 26, 2012: -------------------3,000,000
March 17, 2012: ----------------???? (Spotify recently said that it was "WELL NORTH" of 3 millions but didn't specify).
Spotify just expanded to Germany (82 million population) and will debut in Australia and New Zealand by the end of this month. Between these 3 countries, that's 100 million people.

by the way, Sean Parker wasn't wrong when he said
"If Spotify continues growing at its current rate in terms of subscribers and users, we will overtake iTunes in terms of the amount of revenue we contribute to the music labels in under two years."
Spotify tripled from 1 mil to 3 million in just 10 months.
At that rate, they could triple from 3 mil to 9 mil in another 10 months.
And 9 mil to 27 mil in another 10 months.
27 million paying subscribers would generate MORE REVENUE for the labels than Itunes.
But that's impossible to go from 3 mil to 27 mil in just 2 years. No way can Spotify sustain its current growth rate.

Spotify founder says sales may top $889 mln in 2012
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...8FD0FE20120413
Quote:
(Reuters) - Digital music streaming service Spotify may see revenues top 6 billion Swedish crowns ($889 million) this year as it pushes ahead with its rapid expansion on both sides of the Atlantic, founder Daniel Ek said in a newspaper interview on Friday.
. . . . .
"Our focus is all on growth. That is priority one, two, three, four and five. But of course we expect to make a profit in the long run," he was quoted as saying.

Streaming music seems so impersonal. You really don't own anything, not even a file. I would rather to continue to use iTunes.
English Art Rock
Bryan Ferry, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Roxy Music, Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Bat For Lashes
Other Favourites
Joanna Newsom, Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, Janelle Monae, Ramsey Lewis, Matana Roberts, Whitney Houston

If it is possible to count the number of listens a song get per week, it will be the MOST ACCURATE SINGLE CHART EVER.
But sadly that is impossible.
Nobody can count how many "listens" a person does per week from a MP3 sold.
That person could listen
Week 1: 15 times
Week 2: 7 times
Week 3: 40 times
Week 4: 0 times
but the sale is only counted in week 1.
The most popular song in a given week is the song that been listened to the most. And there is no way to count this. Maybe in the future when 100% of music consumption is done through devices that can count "weekly" listens.

I think Itunes will launch its own version of Spotify by the end of this year.
There was a rumor a few weeks ago about that.

People could easily "fake" listens, like on LastFM and stuff, so it would not make sense and make it not accurate or reliable. That would also make certain artists have 100000000000000000000000 plays because of an big fanbase and others will have just a few because of the fact the fanbase is much smaller and don't spam services like that/

That's easy to solve.
Put a limit on "countable listens" per day or per week.
Say 10 max per day (and 40 max per week).
If you stream 1000 times a week, it will only count 40 times.

I LOVE streaming music, it's so much cheaper than iTunes. They just need a way to build a more browsable "library" within Spotify.
Y'all throwin contracts at me, you know that primos can't read.
