It's certainly better than AKB48, Kara, SNSD, etc.
Don't be fooled; most of their other songs are abysmal. Abazure is okay but only because it's so damn ****ty (I mean the word means "loose" in Japanese) and GAGAGA is kinda cute.

Are 2NE1 actually popular in Korea or is it all hype? Their only good song seems to be I AM THE BEST. Did they do a Japanese version of that?

& pretty much all of their songs are good, IATB isn't even in my top 3. That's what I like about them, the quality is always there. It Hurts, Lonely, Go Away are among their best.
Yeah, there's a Jap. version of IATB, but the lyrics sucked (It's known that YG isn't good at translating songs), and their Japanese wasn't quite there yet (they didn't even release it as a single)
