Let me make some things clear before you read on (I know someone will try & report this but here's to hoping that doesn't work):
1. I'm a fan of Nicki's.
2. I love other singles from Roman Reloaded & will be buying the album.
3. I want the best for her.

That being said, this "first single", is, well, to put it bluntly, absolute trash in my opinion. Super Bass is a catchy song but the lyrics are actually humorous & clever, thus becoming a surprise smash. The chorus is a clever metaphor or love (comparing your heart to speaker bass).

I have thought & even looked up the meaning of the lyrics to Starships. I have found no answer. What the hell am I doing when I say "ray ray ray". What do starships flying have to do with putting my hands up to the sky? Why should I jump through a "hoppty hoopty hoop"? Keep in mind I'm certainly no anti-dance pop person (I actually love a lot of it), but enough is enough. Nicki is capable of so much more than what this single represents. This is clearly apparent on the hip hop snippets of Roman Reloaded & even some of the other pop snippets of the same album.

Which brings me to ask that why choose Starships when from the snippets alone, I can tell that all of those pop snippets are better than Starships? Pound the Alarm is extremely (I don't like using this word but have to) generic & Whip It is at least has a bit of Nicki stamp on it. Yes, we haven't heard in entirety yet, but I doubt what I'm typing will change much. Why Starships replaced Va Va Voom is beyond me.

The song is just terrible & I'm hoping Nicki fans can agree with me. I like some carefree party song but that has makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes it's a mess but I still love it. Nicki is an entertainer and that's what her music is doing. Like you said it's a care free party song and I think it accomplished that well.

I agree with most of what you said, especially that Starships is no Super Bass, but I have a feeling their only goal with this song was to make it as catchy as possible, and they succeeded with that. When I listen to it I get that it's stupid, but it also makes want to sing along. I'd be worried if the whole album was full of songs like this, but I have no problem with just this one. (The other pop songs don't sound as similar to each other to me as some other people are saying.)

That said, the song just sounds like a springtime smash. They probably made it a single now so they can save the good songs for later on once the hype of the album release calms down.

It's as big a mess as her Grammy performance, but thats not the point. It is catchy as hell and I think that is sadly all that matters. It will probably be a summer smash, it makes me excited for summer already

I don't even know what I'm listening to. What lyrics are being rapped/sung to me.

Why is there no bridge after the second chorus? It goes to a second chorus, to a dance break with no additional lyrics, to the third chorus.

And I also don't get twinkle twinkle little star. The only verse I enjoy is the first one but it all goes downhill from there.
