Is "Where Have You Been" Talk That Talk's last chance?

The smash hit "We Found Love" was released on September 22, 2011 and after a few weeks it seemed all was going well for Rihanna. She got her incredible #1 smash hit that would go on to hit #1 in over 15 countries, Talk That Talk was set for a release date in the holiday season on November 21st and everyone expected another smash era.

Then, "You Da One" happened. I had a feeling this song wasn't going to match the success of it's predecessor just by first listening to it, but some still had faith. The song was released officially on the 14th of November and made practically no impact in any country, only managing to reach #1 on the hot dance club charts. But everything still seemed ok with the massive "We Found Love" still continuing Rihanna's success.

Then 'Talk That Talk' debuted on the Billboard 200. We all know the story here. Loud appears to overshadow this album in every way possible.

Then, "Talk That Talk" happened. This song had #1 or at least Top 10 written all over it, in my opinion. The Jay-Z feature should have easily brought this song to smash. The song was officially released on January 17, 2012 a few months after the release of Talk That Talk. Prior to it's release date, this song had already debuted in the Top 40 based off of digital sales alone, so it seemed like an ideal smash, and maybe it was going to be . . .

Then, "Birthday Cake" happened. The shocking remix with Chris Brown was unveiled to the world on February 20, 2012. The threads and mayhem that invaded atrl that day represent the song's messiness itself, so there is no need to go into any further description on the featured artist. The song itself basically destroyed any momentum that "Talk That Talk" had and now sees itself aiming for a Top 40-30 peak.

Then, along comes "Where Have You Been", which seems to be the last hope to revive this era. It seems like a worldwide smash waiting to happen, similar to "We Found Love". It is the only song I actually like on the album, and is very club friendly.

The question is, do you think "Where Have You Been" is this era's last chance?

Yes, if that smash-like song doesn't "smash" then there's no hope for Drunk on Love or Roc Me Out..

It's the biggest chance left for a smash, but there are other songs on the album that could do well (specifically "Watch N' Learn.")

This song is an EPIC SMASH waiting to happen.

If it flops it is because of Rihannas carelessness, that is all.

At this point, I'd hold off on WHYB and work on Talk That Talk and Birthday Cake at the same time. I think Cockiness has a chance of becoming a hit, same with Drunk On Love. However, I have a feeling Where Have You Been will be the smash that YDO and TTT were supposed to be, cause honestly both of those songs could've hit #1.

If they release WHYB now, that completely obliterates the top 5 potential of Talk That Talk as well as diminishes Birthday Cake's chances of becoming a significant hit. They've ****ed it up by releasing both at the same time already, now they need to WORK on them. Not give up. If they realize that, then no, they have more chances. But if they completely ignore the obvious, then yes, it is its last chance, and Cockiness/Drunk On Love/any other singles won't have the chance to support the era if WHYB somehow doesn't succeed.

What's so epic about it? It just repeats the same thing over and over except for the short hook, and the beat is nothing special. No shade... I just don't see what's so great about it.

Drunk on Love has a chance, but they're prolly not gonna release that as a single.

So I would say it basically is it's last chance.

TTT still has time to smash though. W&L is another track that has potential.

WHYB better be SHOVED down the public's throats. She needs to promote it, perform it on award shows, etc.

I really hope this will be the Rude Boy of the era. IF (God forbid) WHYB doesn't do well, then I don't think this era is done. BUT, I think that TTT won't be passing 2M anytime this year.
