Damn—these are like two of my favorite albums of all time. .
But I went with 'Like A Prayer'; as an album, it seemed a lot more cohesive and thought out.
Not even mentioning, it aged a lot better than 'Rhythm Nation'.

The only thing that Rhythm Nation has over it is the Hot 100 positions.
But Madonna has WW to compensate.
RN singles went Top 10 only in US, pretty much nowhere else.

Oh palease. Most of the singles went Top 10 in Japan canada and South africa and top 20 everywhere els. You don't have to be on the levels of Michael or Madonna to be big worldwide

rhythm nation.
like a prayer is overrated to high heaven. I don't get how it is worshipped so much more than madonna's other albums. True blue, bedtime stories, like a virgin, madonna, confession on a dance floor, music, erotica >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> like a (poor pop-tart excuse for a ) prayer

How so? I think it's more the other way around.
Like A Prayer is one of my least favourite Madonna albums.
And I didn't realize she had released so many bad singles during this era (except for "Like A Prayer").
What we have here is a confessional album VS a musical political statement but I think the latter is more ambitious and less egocentric.
It's crazy how far behind the 00s generation is when doing their manufactured "real" album.
A socially conscious mainstream pop album ? Who would dare releasing that nowadays ?

But to be fair to Like A Prayer, only four/five of the songs on Rhythm Nation are socially conscious. That's still a lot higher than the obligatory one on most other albums though.

Rhythm Nation.
I love pretty much every song on the album.
Like a Prayer hasn't aged that well, to me at least.

"Express Yourself", "Cherish", "Oh Father" & "Keep It Together"
Are faaaar from band singles—especially given 3 of those went top ten. .
Anyway, I just felt 'Rhythm Nation' was all over the place.
The first half of it is 'preachy', the middle of it is 'friendly-pop' & the
Latter of the album just went sexual—I didn't get it.
Whearas, 'Like A Prayer' dealt with what Madonna was goin' through at the time..
'Marriage', 'death', 'family', 'religion' & 'love'—it was just better executed.

^^^The whole RN1814 album is preachy. The only song that isn't really socially conscious is "Miss You Much".
"Escapade" is arguable, but it is socially conscious.

I hate these songs. They're probably the only singles from her I don't like.
Well, according to Lately 1814 almost everything on it was socially conscious, making it the main concept of the record, and tackled different themes...

What was preachy about "Alright," "Someday Is Tonight," "Lonely" and "Come Back to Me"?
And of course, the whole album won't be entirely preachy. She would have alienated some potential buyers. Despite not all the songs being "preachy," the songs still blend together into a cohesive piece.
