Most pop music sounds like each other recently. The only difference is the singer/producer.
The only pop artist that had a unique sound recently is Gaga and sometimes Rihanna (You don't hear songs like Man Down or Rude Boy much)

generic music isn't necessarily bad music at all. it just isn't refreshing because it blends in with a lot of the rest of the stuff on radio at a given time. doesn't mean i don't enjoy it and don't know all the words.

Nope, the two don't have to relate at all. Trying to sum up all generic music as bad just seems ridiculous. There's a lot of bad generic music, but there's also a lot of gems mixed in all the trash.

Generic music can be just as flawless and amazing as any other song. Every song has their own different twist which makes it their own. So, yeah. "Generic" music can be good.

But you need to be careful, I mean, you can do some generic songs but not an entire album because that make people bored, there will be a certain point you'll need to inovate. But so far I haven't seen anything bad about generic music, just gives you that title of unoriginal.

This. IMO Motown is an example of this. The songs are cut and paste hit factory material. But the sound itself is unique. Most of their songs could've been sung by any motown artist but not outside the label.

To me most mainstream pop music is always "generic"....that's why "pop" is short for POPULAR. There's always going to be the trend.

Granted, what's generic doesn't always start out that way because there are always game changers. It's when everyone one else follows.

If someone can pull off what's already been done better, then that's when generic music can be good.
