Before Disney had its huge stable of acts, mainstream pop music is what Radio Disney played. Back when I was little, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, Christina Aguilera and their bubblegum pop ilk were the top artists on the station. I remember "My Heart Will Go On" was Radio Disney's #1 song of 1998.

I don't think so. The VMAS probably influenced Radio Disney enough to add Adele to the radio.
