2011 was year of a the flop for many of pop music's heavy hitters.
Britney Spears - Femme Fatale
FF started out with a bang with Hold It Against sky rocketing to #1 on the Hot 100 and twitter trending topics for weeks at a time leading up to the albums release. Fast forward to when the album hit shelves, FF debuted at #1 with Spears' second lowest first week sales to date and has since become her lowest selling album in the US.
Beyonce - 4
In 2011 Beyonce released her critically acclaimed 4th studio album. Despite an expensive video for the projects lead single and the usual Beyonce brand promotional campaign attached, 4 failed to spawn any hit singles and has barely sold over 1 million in the US.
Rihanna - Talk That Talk
In 2011 Rihanna announced another rushed studio album was on it's way. The albums lead single topped the charts in various countries for many weeks and was performed on televisions biggest platforms. When the album was released in November, Ms. Fenty once again failed to get a #1 album in the US and the album has yet to be certified platinum.
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Gaga took the charts by storm in 2011 when her bargain bin second studio album hit the shelves and discount sites selling over 1 million copies in its first week. Fast forward ahead to the end of 2011 charts. From it's release born this way experienced a steep declining and ending the year with just over 2 million copies sold, despite half of that total being it's first week. Aside from the inital Madonna cloned first single, Born this way failed to spawn any #1 singles in the US., a far cry from the slew of hits released from her first studio album.
