(I'll do this discussion without the poll so it's not closed and to avoid arguements, but I think it's an interesting topic).

Okay I hear a lot of people criticse Kelly for example in the "overweight" department and then a lot of people say she's completely fine and it doesn't matter. Does it matter or should it matter to pop success?

Adele has plenty of success, yet other pop stars seem to be criticized when they gain a few pounds?

Well honestly, weight doesn't really matter to most people, except for tabloids and haters.

When you're a popstar delivering strictly pop music, weight is almost a pre-requisite. Notice how people pay Clarkson dust in terms of Youtube views. No one is here to watch a fat girl doing some lame ass dance moves. Katy and Rihanna, for example, hardly move around while they are able to remain #MAJAH the whole 4 minutes, and both are gaining views at a rate Kelly is never seeing.

I think if you're introduced as a hot, skinny popstar like Xtina and Kelly then you're more likely to get flack for it then someone like Adele. In the end, I don't think it really matters. Stronger proves that you can still have success if you can connect with what the public is into.

I mean its not like you are going to be listening to the radio and start jamming to the song and you really like it. Then, they tell you who sings it and you go "Oh I ain't buying that bitches music so she can go to Mc Donalds"

Britney and Christina managed to stay thin for more than 2 months tho. People remember them for their golden days.

It shouldn't matter, but pop music is the one genre where your appearance is your biggest asset, unfortunately. Especially if you make sex appeal a huge part of your image. Adele and Kelly get away with it more because they've never sold themselves as sex symbols. But artists like Christina, Britney and the like, they've made a career off of being sexually appealing, therefore once they let themselves go even the tiniest bit, they'll be excoriated for it. And I think that same standard applies to male pop stars too, even if it's to a lesser extent.

The thing is with Kelly is that she used to be skinny. So that's basically why she gets attacked about it so much. Adele has always been overweight so people don't really care.

Not to mention Adele's intensified quality of her music over-weighs her appearance. Music always win. Kelly has none.

Yes, in a good way more than the bad. But you have to consider their different demographics too.

Britney has been large for more then 5 years, almost half her career though..i remember the more recent, more large times too. Xtina better get working otherwise like Britney she will also be remembered for this large episode.

i think the definitions of "large" and "overweight" should be discussed too.....

these girls might be larger than what they used to be but none are overweight.

2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, pre circus 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Most of those years she was fat and more recent just large and thick.
