Some people also don't realize that abuse goes far beyond just beatings. There's psychological abuse as well and in some cases it can be worse depending on the situation. People who do these type of things have anger issues and need help.

I realize it can happen and it's wrong, but I can see why people take it lightly. It's just odd to believe a man would let a woman overpower him. When it happens to women, they usually stay because alot of the time they have something to lose by walking away OR they're so afraid. But I just think its weird that a man would be afraid of his wife. Like, if that bitch is out of line, restrain her or leave her ass.

It's no different with a man. Abuse usually warps your mind over time to the point that it becomes difficult for you to leave even when you have the opportunity to do so. Add to the fact that they never get take seriously as victims by law enforcement and society in general, and it's even worse. I mean, the OP's own brother laughed at him after he confided in him. I'm sure if it was his sister, he wouldn't find it so funny.
