Both divas dominated the charts in the late 90s and early 20s. Here on ATRL, they will battle it out for the greatest and most iconic songs and albums.

On November 2, 1999, Mariah Carey released her seventh album "Rainbow", which spawned two number one hits. It would be the Mariah's last on the Columbia label. After signing a $100 million five-album deal with Virgin, her eighth album / soundtrack to the film of the same name, "Glitter" was released on September 11, 2001, to disappointing sales, weak singles, and poor critical reception. However, Mariah recovered quickly, and "Charmbracelet", her ninth studio album, was released on December 3, 2002. Although it sold better than her previous effort, its singles failed to make an impact in the US.

Jennifer Lopez, still newly signed to Columbia, released her first album "On the 6" on June 1, 1999, which followed a successful number one hit single. "J.Lo", her second studio effort, was released on January 23, 2001, sold 272,000 copies in its first week and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The remixes of two of "J.Lo"'s tracks, "Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix)" and "I'm Real (Murder Remix)" both reached number one in the US. Nearly two years later, on November 19, 2002, "This Is Me... Then" was released. Two of its singles reached the top three on the Hot 100.

Waiting For Tonight makes it 2. Which makes it about the only two songs of really any importance. Unless we count Loverboy...good old Loverboy.

Jennifer Lopez easily wins this if we're going by 99-03. Don't really need to listen to anything.

J. Lo was at the top of her game and Mariah fell hard. Plus, those three albums by Mariah are terrible. I've heard all three.

Glitter is the strongest of the 3 when you sort out the filler. Its a really great time period piece that truly celebrates the 80's in all its decadence. Rainbow is a poor man's Butterfly and Charmbracelet is a poor man's Music Box.

This is probably the hardest of the rates that I've been interested in.

Yes. This is the campiest rate ever! Obviously Heartbreaker will be number one and Waiting for Tonight will be number two. After that, it's like - where are the good songs?
