"Hollywood" deals with appearances and how people stick to superficial things in their lives, as Madonna said she did before Kabbalah happened.
It didn't even chart in the US, not even on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. That was her first single since ****ing "Burning Up" to manage to achieve such a title. However, it was kinda successful in Europe - it even got a #2 in the UK!
Of course its most infamous performance was at the 2003 VMAs, with Britney and... what's the name of the other girl? Oh, yes, Missy Elliot. The only time she used it in a tour was at the Re-Invention as an interlude.
The video basically features Madonna predicting what in the future would be The Real Housewives. It suffered a lawsuit for plagiarism (Gaga stans, quick, get your receipts!) but both parts reached a settlement and everything went OK.
I really like "Hollywood". Its lyrics are simple, yet effective. Its sound is simple, yet effective. That's what Madonna is good at. 8 from me.
So far I agree with all the choices except of course "Crazy For You." Also...while "Keep It Together" isn't one of M's more memorable singles, it confounds me how it's been voted out while "Dear Jessie" is still in the running.
These things we do to keep the flame burning
And write our fire in the sky
Another day to see the wheel turning
Another avenue to try

This song was recorded after all the mess Madonna went through with SEX and Erotica. Her label wanted to soften her image, and then they decided she should sing it for the soundtrack of With Honors.
And well, it was successful. It peaked at #2 in the US and #7 in the UK. It did well in the rest of Europe, too.
I've never seen her performing it live. If anyone has, share it!
The video features Madonna with a similar look to the one in "Rain", singing the song at a recording studio. It features scenes from With Honors in the back.
I love this song. Its first 3 seconds are already an 8 for me. It's so sweet, so tender, so good! And her voice sounds heavenly. I gave it an 8.5, but now I think I should've rated it a little higher. Maybe a 9?
