What made "Born This Way" underperform?
I don't know if there has been a particular thread about this topic since the album was officially declared "done," but now that the dust has settled over the past year and this album era, I am curious as to what you all have to say about this topic.
We all know that the Born This Way era had an amazing start, but then after TEOG music video was released everything kinda went downhill. Even retrospectively, her single sales could have been much, much higher considering the hype.
So, my question to you all is this: what about GaGa's promotion/execution/direction of this album made it not as successful as it could/should have been? For the choices in the poll I took what I have seen most commonly through the past year.

The Edge of Glory video ruined the hype, I think. If she had made a completely spectacular video for it, something in the vein of Y+I, she could have kept people excited.

She had killer promotion this era, but for some reason it didn't seem to resonate very well.

It outperformed for the quality of the songs, I think.
And it was 2011 not 2008.

Judas & TEOG video are probably the main reasons.

Because the quality of her performances dropped significantly, tbh.

Please elaborate, because I can't seem to understand why people think this song's release ruined the album.

The singles release time. Five singles in less than a year and without tour.

I think she chose the wrong singles. Judas should have never been a single. Marry the Night should have come earlier with a much shorter video. None of that 'album of the decade', '30 million sold', '10 singles' ****. And the whole making herself ugly thing.

I think she was trying so very hard in some of them that it came off as stupid. I mean, her "The View" performances were great, so simple. The performances where she had the teal pubic hair, on the other hand...

I don't think it underperformed. For me personally it performed better than I though it would. Almost 6 million in just under a year. Most people nowadays expect too much from Gaga, and that's why some people believe it underperformed. However, in the reality of the current day and age we live in with illegal downloads, etc, it has done exceedingly well

1) She promised the album of the decade and it resulted being far from that
2) Too many singles before the album release
3) Bad music videos
4) Plagarism accusations did not help
5) the album now sounds boring and burn out
6) "Less interesting" songs than The Fame / The fame monster
7) Overexposure
etc etc
What It really shocks me is that she did a MEGA- promotion campaign , pictures of the albums on Subways, streets, restaurants, I think even on the toilets of the bathroom.... Performances on a million TV shows , $0.99 discount, etc etc etc ...... and with all that it only sold +5M copies according to Mediatraffic chart , thats around 10M less than her previous album
She should take a break

All of the first four. And they killed Judas off way too early.
